Another 12 miler under my belt. It started raining pretty hard at about mile 5 and continued to rain on us for the rest of the way. Fun, fun. It's stopped now, so I guess we get to golf!

    Ya'll have a great day!

30 miles in the rain. Started riding just before sunrise and the rain began about 2 miles into it. I debated turning around, going home, and doing Spinervals ABB 5, but the thought of 2 hours and 10 minutes on the trainer was less appealing than riding in the rain. Actually, I like riding in the rain because the trail is usually deserted. Not even the bunnies were braving it today. Luckily, no thunder/lightning and no downpours (got stuck in one of those last Monday). As I was heading home, I went down a descent on the trail that passes beneath a roadway--abuts a stream--it was FLOODED. Luckily I was able to stop and unclip, turn around and head back up the way I came. You can bypass that segment by crossing the road under which the descent passes Didn't encounter any more flooding the rest of the way home, although I was soaking wet and my back was filthy. Even had sandy grit on my neck. My ruby slippers are soaked, too.

Did a 15.2 mile loop early this morning before the "flood watch" rains begin. Since it's now 12:40 and it isn't raining yet, I guess tonight will be a downpour. I started going up a long, but not too steep hill, with 2 more rollers in between the flats and the steep climb back to my house. It was only 67 degrees out, but about 100% humidity. I _finally_ got the new computer on my new bike fixed yesterday, so at least that wasn't frustrating. On Friday, I did a group ride and the computer recorded 5 of the 21 miles!
About 11-12 miles into the ride, my husband decided to try and catch a woman who was quite a distance ahead of us. I think she must have been going a steady 16-17 mph, but I was able to "close the gap." When I looked down as I passed her, I was going 24. Thankfully, it was a flat...
Tonight my "cycling boy" from Berlin is coming for a visit and to race in the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic next week. Well, he's not really my son, but he was our exchange student a few years ago when my son was racing. He's a pro now. I am very excited!

9 a.m. ride, and it's already hot in Seattle. I was sweaty and I was mostly coasting! It's gotta be at least 75 already... whew!

Just a little 5 miler through my neighborhood. Didn't have to blow my nose, and only coughed a few times.

    Hi Knottedyet, it IS hot.
I did 18.6 miles south of Seattle, the interurban trail. I was just flying, 18mph.
Then i noticed the trees were all pointing in the direction i was going!!! TAILWIND! so I turned around and got a real workout going home.
Saw some flickers, two osprey and a tiny little garter snake.

When i got my bike out this morning, I noticed the brakes were rubbing! Called hubby who told me how to fix it... (he's in Yakima shepherding the Cascade 1200 people)
Then I fixed my toestraps. BIG difference DUH. No problem getting into them or out of them. no toeing in either.
    WHEW.

now for a day of trying to stay cool.

Too hot here. Yes, I am a heat wuss.

Sheesh. I'm guessing it hit around 88 or so in Seattle today. We planned to do an 87-mile tandem ride (still doing STP prep rides). Knew it would be hot so got up at 5:30, started riding at 7 am. The first three-four hours were fine. The last two hours felt like furnace-land. We did 83 miles. Now busy trying to pick a "drop-dead" temperature for STP---I'm pretty sure we couldn't manage the whole 206 miles at this temp. Truly, I am a total heat wiener. I admit it. Always have been.

Aren't the ends of such rides too much fun, though? Pouring the last of the water over my head, knowing we're done, reasonably happy with what we did...taking that wonderful shower, putting your feet up and entering a pleasantly idiotic state.

There was some kind of relay event on the Sammamish River Trail today too--people were cyclng, kayaking, and running. Whoof! Very cool to watch. Brave souls. Hats off to all who can keep going in this kind of heat!

    Hot Ride

42.5 miles for me. Very Hot, but nice ride from my house to the Idaho stateline to watch some of the biking at the Coeur d'Alene Ironman. It was fun watching them whizz by. Lots of people standing around cheering the riders. Didn't make it all the way back home though. I wasn't drinking near enough water for the heat, mid 90's, and had to call my personal SAG to come get me. I really feel for the triathletes in the heat today! They still have that 26 mile run to do.

A nice cool shower felt great when I got home and I'm drinking lots of ice water. Now if daughter and I can convince the husband this is a pizza night, all will be well. bikerHen

    Yes! Pizza it is.

I think I may have done 2-3 rides today.
Started out with a Flat. Drat! fixed it and made it to to the meeting place for the 7am ride. A new woman had decided that she wanted to do the longer ride, I thought about talking her out of, since it was mostly the hammerheads. I took my group out to a breakfast place in Upland. we soon got a call on the cell phone form the "Hammerheads" asking if we could pick up the new woman. I changed my route a little bit, and soon had two extra riders to look after. One of the guys had crashed last week , and decided to hang with us. We soon made to the restaurant. This place is famous locally for having a section where you can bring in your dog to dine with you. We wound up in the doggy section ,largely to watch our bikes. I left my riders to go to church. After church , I decided to swing by a LBS to get a new tube. no 700X25 long stem prestas! Grrrr... wound up going to REI. They had them in sock. The local REI is not in a very bike accessible place. Wound up doing some extra mile , both for fun, and to make going home easier. Made it up a hill in my medium chaingring that I had to use my granny gear for before. was going to some mountain biking , but the heat and a sinus infection have put the kibosh on those plans. Otherwise, A great day on the bike

I got in 11 big miles on my new recumbent bike. I had a blast and with time I'm sure I'll feel more comfortable, just have to adjust to the new ride. I had to leave it at my BF's place this evening for I already had my little blue bike in the car and did not have room for the new bike. I'll pick it up tomorrow and take it for a spin.
