    June 16th Rides

My usual ride. I was a bit slower than usual, for whatever reason.
After reading the thread on Susan and the Hit and Run, it got me thinking about an incident on the ride.
I came upon a person in a older Cadillac driving slowly in the right lane. The driver looked like they were having a conversatio with a woman on the sidewalk. I moved over to the left lane to pass, and the driver floored it. I remember thinking at the time that is more than likely a lover's spat, but now i'm wondering if I should asked her if everything was OK. I can be such a spazz at times....

I got in a quick 25 miles after my mammogram this afternoon. I volunteered to host a 25 mile ride next month for the club and need to put together a route. Though today's ride is 25 it is not a very scenic route so I think I'll keep exploring for a better route.

I did 12 miles out to the airport to pick up my rental car so I can get to the Janesville Pie Ride tomorrow. Good grief is it ever hot and muggy out there! And the forecast for tomorrow is even worse. Luckily there's a bit of a breeze. That helps.

Now to get my gear together for tomorrow -- fill up the hydration pack and water bottles, mix some gorp, get my clothes and gear laid out, emergency stuff in the backpack, and set the alarm clock for 5:30.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

I really wanted to do the Janesville Pie Ride....for the obvious reason, but I have to work. I want to hear about which pie you had.

I went for a 30 mile after work ride tonight. It was a bit warm and muggy but there was a nice breeze. I live very near Miller Park (Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Stadium) so I go past the parking lot both ways. There is a game tonight so the fabulous smells of tailgating on my way out almost got me to take a detour into the parking lot to hunt down a brat and a beer. Knowing Wisconsin Tailgaters, 9 out of 10 would have offered to share.

No ride today. SKnot and I were going up to the school track so he could practice riding the bike. Weeeeeellll, he wanted to ride behind me through the parking lot.

He ended up crashing because he was about to run over me (can't hold a line and hasn't really learned to steer) and then I nearly crashed because Mommy Instincts cut it and I tried to JUMP off my bike when I heard him hit the ground. I was still clipped in. Thank goodness for Frogs, they let go right away.

We walked the rest of the way to the track, and then stopped abruptly because a whole herd of boys from our neighborhood were playing at the school. SKnot refused to learn to ride with an audience. He refused to walk one step further. It was funny, but I felt just like when I was 12 and picked on by the boys in my neighborhood. Even though I'm an adult now, I didn't want an audience either!

    We'll try again tomorrow.
