Group Ride ~ Avg Speed Inflation?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I feel like I'm missing a decoder ~ attempted a group ride, was told that the B group would maintain 16-19 thru the flats. In reality, it was 19 thru the rolling hills, and 21+ in the flats.

    Is that normal?

There isn't a C group in this pack - and I am sure we were in the B group (DH later caught up with and finished the ride w/ the As.)

I think the problem is likely with the person who said a 16-19 mph ride means that's the speed in the flats (if it's not, for that particular group).

Around here, 16-19 would be a B group, but that would be an overall average (ie. 14-15 on hills, 21+ on flats) and if it was predominantly men, it would be skewed towards the 19 end!

from being an officer of numereous clubs(I think I have "make me your club's secertary" tattoed on my forehead), You usually won't the "true" pace until you go on the ride. I usually like to start with something a little below my ablities and judge from there If I need to move up. And my experience with 16-19 miles rides and males is that the pace will get pushed...
