I got my new (replacement from the accident) bike

    Hi all,

This weekend I took possession of my 2nd new, really expensive bike in 4 months. Just over a month ago, I was hit by a fairly large pickup truck and my 2.5 month old Specialized Ruby Pro with Campy Record components was completely totalled. On Saturday, I got another one. She is exactly the same as the first except that I went with a triple chainring instead of the compact double. It was a little shocking to me that going to the triple (which adds a longer derailer and some extra chain) added .6 pounds to the bike.

My doctor last week gave me permission to do some "very short, light riding" on my granny gears, so I rode the bike home from the shop. It's only about a mile, but my knee is still swollen and sore from the ride. I guess it will be a while before I really get to try this bike out. But at least I have something nice to ride when my knee is ready ...

Happy to hear you got your bike replaced!

You should be riding again... full speed... real soon!

That's great! Weren't you worried about finding that same bike? I'll be curious to hear how you like the triple compared to the compact double...

    Susie -
Congrats on getting your new bike; now it will be waiting for you when you're ready for it!

But - please give your body the time it needs to recover. I know from experience that it's hard not to ride when you really want to be rolling down the road - and it can be hard to accept the amount of time it takes until you have fully recovered from an accident like yours. I think what helped me is knowing that every bit of exercise helped my body to return to (what I considered) normal.

Still sending healing thoughts your way.

    Ditto what Nanci said...

I know you were worried about finding another Ruby. How did that finally work out? I know we gave you lots of suggestions. It will be good info for others looking for a bike that might not be in stock.

Take it easy and enjoy another new bike!

Congratulations on the new bike! Take really good care of that knee.

I was also surprised at the weight difference between the triple and the compact double and opted for the double. I'm beginning to question the wisdom of that decision. Let us know how you like it, and how your healing progresses.
