A bicyclist has been killed after she was struck by a loaded log truck west of Cottage Grove.COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) -

Authorities identified the victim as 47-year-old Jane Higdon, of Eugene.

The accident happened Wednesday afternoon. A group of four bicyclists were riding along Territorial Road near Hamm Road when police say one of the cyclists crashed.

According to the police report, Higdon moved into the southbound lane to avoid the other cyclists at the same time a southbound truck loaded with logs was approaching.

The log truck driver from Winston moved toward the northbound lane in an attempt to avoid Higdon but the right side of the truck struck her.

The highway was closed for nearly four hours for the investigation.

Higdon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Higdon was a well known triathlete who competed in the Canadian Iron Man competition. Higdon was married, a published author, and a research associate at the Linus Pauling Institute in Corvallis.
