    Guess I misjudged the wind!

Crazy logic we come up with to get a ride in! Windy!!!! in IN today. I decide it's not sooo bad + great ride on the return home. Sounds good in theory but.....take off, having hard time keeping the bike on the road at times thinking it is going to be worth it, decide to ride 2 miles more. Out of no where appears large dog who I could not hear coming. Dog starts darting back & forth behind me, charging up on the right.I have almost on vision in my right eye, can't get to pepper spray in my pocket for fear of wind blowing me over if I take my hands off the handlebar and I can't get much speed because of wind. INTENSE. Get to turn around point, whats a girl to do. Call for help, not! No way I'm going back to battle fido. Have to turn south so wind can try to blow me into lane of traffic for about a mile. Lucky me no semi's. So how hard is the wind blowing??? Not sure? maybe 35 mph, seemed like 100 mph but when I finally reached the turn for tailwind I was going 16mph without touching the pedals.

This could qualify for reinforcement of the crazy biker theory. Wait there is thread on sanity. I did walk my bike over the overpass so as not to be blown over the edge. Guess I am not completely insane. Just heard the news 40mph winds! Thanks had to share.

    Here too!

Wow, I thought it was just me! Rode home today, and I pedaled and pedaled and seemed to get nowhere! Thought I would just fall over. Of course, that came right after I went to the Post Office, the other direction, and I thought "Man, I'm getting fit, riding this bike is EASY!" Of course I didnt' realize that I didn't even have to pedal heading east. I'm in Missouri, and when I got home, I saw that our basketball goal had blown over and there were limbs everywhere! No dogs, though.

You ARE brave--and/or crazy...I was whacked by my own car door just getting in and out of the car today in Chgo. I wanted to ride my bike, but it was one of those wind-from-every-direction-at-once days, so no way. I saw several brave souls out in it, though. Glad you made it home well to tell the tale! Lise

Funny now but scary at the time. I have been told I'm crazy for my bicycling habit more times than I can count. Worst part is the dog, never had trouble on that route before. I'll have to keep him in mind when I go that way.

Sorry mtbdarby not very familiar with Indy area. There are quite a few shops there & they seem to be working to make the city more bike friendly. I am north of Indy about 2 hrs don't get down that way often.
