Has anyone had any experience with a hulinator-It is a hydrolic bike rack that comes down to the side of your vehicle and goes back up after loading...I need one to take both bike and kayak for adventures and it can be quite expensive so I need to know if anyone has experience....Several companies make this and with my jeep cherekee I need some help with the any roof action. Sure I could find hobbies with smaller equipment but why???

The only thing I know about them (the yakima one specifically) is that they are expensive!!!!!. That's why I have a bike rack on the back of my suv instead of on top. I simply cannot reach that high.

I haul a stool inside my car to allow me to load and unload my bike. At 5'1", it's the only way I can do it unless there's a good size rock or curb available.
Vertically challenged, but expanding my horizons.

good points but....
I know that they run about $800.00 but I am not sure how else to transport my kayak and my bike. I have a great rack also for my trailer hitch. It does give limited access to the back but I can live with that.
I am thinking when I go up north for a vacation I really want both. I also will need to put some kind of rack on for the kayak for any time. I just thought that I should get something for both. Does anyone else have any thoughts or ideas? I am 5'10" and I need a stool so my heart goes out to you for being short but if life wasnt a challenge then hey what would we do? My friend that I do kayaking with is also 5' nothing so I can relate..
I also heard that loading was okay but to lock it in place was another story so I have some doubts about that. I believe that Thule also makes this kind of rack now this year.. Any experience out there?????

Rollers for the Kayak??
How about the rollers for your kayak? I am about 5'4" and can get a kayak up on a car that way (haven't tried an SUV). All you have to do is get one end on the rollers and push. Saves your having to lift the whole thing over your head (a cumbersome process even with 2 people, I've found...)
We discovered that even our old V70 volvo isn't wide enough for more than 2 kayaks (can't get the bikes on top too), so you may have a width consideration depending on the type of vehicle and kayak.
