    New Job Update

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to give an update. I officially started my new job as Art Director a few weeks ago. I now commute about 70 minutes each way 4-days a week coming from a history of working at home for almost a decade (I'm so lucky!).

So far, I LOVE my job. I've already had some successes and some failures--but the work is great. I am enjoying the greater responsibility (read: power hungry, lol). Actually, the best part is that I feel like I am a real part of the process of publishing a book now. I like that feeling and I like creating an end product: one that people will hold in their hands, cherish, stack on their bookshelves, and pass onto their friends. Designing ads always left me feeling a little empty, it all eventually ends up in the garbage. This is a nice change.

A few observations about the transition from working at home to an office space:
    1) my feet hurt! I haven't worn shoes for 10 years. I hate shoes.
    2) The noise. The chatter, the shuffling of papers from neighboring offices--drives me insane. I'm used to quiet. The noise pollution will take some getting used to.
    3) I'm not social. I have no desire to be friends with people at work, not that I don't want to be friendly, I do. But I am very work-focused and don't want to waste time chatting. Not terribly surprising, I know I am a self-motivated, driven person.
    4) Wow, people are really lazy in the office. So much time chatting with each other and dinking around the break room (of course I am posting on a forum right now . . . )

I love how busy my days are now. There's so much work to do that my day flies by. I'm supposed to have Fridays off and I am finding that I obsess about work and am wanting to work anyways. But I am setting some hard boundaries for myself--I don't want to get burned out.

Gotta run, my boss is calling . . . .

Sounds like an exciting time! Wish I enjoyed my job. I've been doing this for so long, that it is just boring with a capital B!

Congrats Limewave! Doing work that is meaningful to you and rewarding is a joy. Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. That's rare, but when found enjoy it for all it's worth.

I'm so happy to hear you are loving it! I know you had some ambivalence about no longer working exclusively from home.
