    Ex-foliating skin & slippery skin

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Ok, I use the basic method of ex-foliating my skin: On wet skin in the shower, I simply rub my skin on my arms, legs...it has done the job.

But now, in the few months I'm noticing that despite taking a shower (much less exfoliating my skin which I only do sometimes by the way. Not daily.), my skin is still slippery..from the body lotion that I use.

    Has anyone experience this??

Not really, because the only lotion I use is Aveeno and it doesn't really have that effect (I break out if I use anything else). But if I really want to exfoliate (without a loofah) I love a good sugar or salt scrub in the shower. It's really invigorating after a tough run/bike/whatever.

I'm not so sure I want to use salt right against my skin. I have extra dry skin on my legs. It's a problem that I can't wear black pantyhose/equivalent in winter.

I love salt scrubs. Most of the ones i have tried are suspended in an oil - so no problem with dryness at all (quite the opposite).

If your skin is that dry then you probably shouldn't be rubbing it at all. Irritating it and rubbing all of your natural oils off will only make it dryer.

Then how would I remove the dust, crap that sticks to my skin...especially as a cyclist that wears shorts often enough? Just letting water and soap run over doesn't remove some stuff.

I do use alot of strong lotion for my dry skin.

My legs are gross after my rides with an accumulated layer of dirt thats stuck to my sunblock. Try the Clarisonic Pro that comes with the body brush. Use a gentle shea butter body wash like Aveeno or Olay. What do you mean by "strong" lotion? I only use one light lotion and it is just right - the La Mer body creme. You will notice the difference. Get a sample and try it. I suspect, unless you have some reaction to it, you will love it by end of first week. That along with the Clarisonic -- my skin feels glorious after a wash.

My guess is the stuff is sticking to your lotion, if you still find the lotion on you after a shower. Plain old bar soap and water removes everything from my legs without really scrubbing...as a runner who trail runs and wears shorts often enough. But you also might want to consider lowering your shower temperature if you tend to like them hot. The hotter the water, the faster natural oils are removed from your skin (and the dryer it will be).

I usually use soft scrub while showering twice a week and my skin really feels better. I agree by the way that water shouldn't be too hot as it is bad for body and hair as well.
I also use body lotion after shower and go to bed.

I have really dry skin in winter, in particular, as well. I have found several things that really, really help. This http://www.aveda.com/product/5214/16...ula/index.tmpl is a nice, fragrance-free product that you can either use in the bath or shower or right after. You don't need much - just a few drops each time you use it - so it lasts a long time.

I also love the salt/sugar scrubs that are in an oil, but instead of scrubbing myself with them, I just put a small amount in a bath and soak 1-2x week and that is a really great way to keep the dry skin away. You'll almost slip out of the tub when done.

And, as for the suggestion on the Clairsonic skin brush....I looked and looked and looked at them and balked at the price. I really wanted one, though, and one day at Target, I realized Olay makes a very similar brush for a fraction of the price. I got it and have been very happy with it (especially with spending about $30 instead of $165).
