Tragic death of woman on Xootr

An awful accident resulted in the death of an NYC woman riding a Xootr. At least the driver has received two summonses, but it seems more should be done:

The inaccurate/sketchy news coverage is not surprising, but I will outline some of it nonetheless. WSJ online headline said the scooter was caught in the truck tires:

Meanwhile, the NY Post ran a photo of a Xootr which looked undamaged, so couldn't have been "caught in truck tires." I sent this link to the WSJ reporter, even though reporter probably didn't write headline.

I've had numerous comments from well-meaning friends suddenly worried that I'm unsafe on a Xootr (which I've been riding since 2000). Again, not surprisingly, people assume that the Xootr is the problem -- not the truck, or its driver, or the known-to-be-dangerous intersection where the accident happened.
