Thanks again - the job interview update

Hi, fabulous wise women of TE!

Many of you sent very positive vibes and written wishes of good luck last week when I interviewed for 2 good jobs in my soon-to-be (as soon as I land one of those jobs) new hometown of Vernon.

The interviews went really well, but the results were mixed. I learned yesterday that job #2 will be advertised externally: my interview went well and I'm still considered a candidate, but they felt there were not enough applicants (whatever that means!), I learned today that job #1 went to another woman in a satellite office that is very close to Vernon. I keep telling myself that's okay, it wasn't the right job.

Yesterday I was invited to interview for job #3, which is at 3:30 (PT) on Tuesday. I made the suggestion, and it worked out, that I could be interviewed for job #4 the same day, and it was late today that this was confirmed - at 1:00 on Tuesday. It's a 4 hour drive, so we have to leave town on time in order to get there and get dressed and all that.

I have also made contact with the manager of the lady who got job #1. I'll try to stop by to introduce myself and check out their office (I haven't been out there yet) to see if I'll want to apply for her position (job #5) when it comes up.

Whew. So, since each interview is a panel of 3, and there may be others I need to drop them with, I'll need to print 9 colour resumes and put them in clear front report covers, like I always do. And this weekend I need to prepare a lot of stuff so our doggies and cats are taken care of and we can leave really really quickly....

It's a heckuva ride this year, but it's all worth it! Your good thoughts are really helping! Thank you!

    Namaste,
    ~T~

    Hey LBTC,

I do a lot of recruitment for the place where I work, and we've recently had exactly the same situation as your job #2, where the existing candidates were still in the running, but we decided (due to internal politics) to widen the pool of candidates. So DON'T worry! It's not you, it's probably them.

Another thing about job #1, you could have come a close second, and in those situations, they usually keep you in mind for other opportunities. So don't give up! You could go back to them, and say that you would like to be considered for other opportunities, and would like them to keep your resume. I can't tell you how many times that has happened where I work, where the runner up often end up getting better jobs in the end!

I really like your spirit, and how you're keeping optimistic. This is also a great place to be, where the ladies of TE are so supportive and friendly. So keep positive, keep spinning and take care,

    Eva

    Hi, Eva!

Thanks for the insider tips. I guess it's not so weird, after all!

Part of the fun of this is that it's all within the same company I already work for. I'm in an office that supports 3 manufacturing plants in one commmunity. There are about 6000 employees in the company overall, about 70 in my department. I'm trying to, ideally, get into the head office, which is in the much nicer community of Vernon, and head office houses about 170 people. There's a lot of movement there, and a good variety of positions. Here, I can't do any other job than the one I already have. Job #5 would be situated more like I am now, in a support office to a manufacturing plant, but it would a few minutes drive out of town from the Vernon office. I'd rather be downtown, but I'll take anything to get out!!

As for spinning: the trainer is finally back in the living room and I used it 3 times this week! yay! I fell on the ice walking to work on Monday, so had to miss kickboxing this week, so the trainer and one weight workout was all I had.....at least it's a start. It's been a slow winter for working out as so much energy and time has gone into making the house look better so, when I do get that job, we can sell it quick.

I wish I had more time to spend hanging out on this forum and catching up with my riding friends here, everyone is so supportive and positive! It's addictive!

    Namaste,

    Wow, LB...
You'll be an absolute expert on how to be interviewed!!!
You are right, if something is not right for us, it doesn't happen - there is always a reason and perhaps that reason is one of these subsequent jobs!

Good luck with those new interviews, great to hear you are back on trainer, and trust those "ice-bruises" disappear quickly!

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

    Pretty low tonight

Ah, I'm not fit for the ups and downs of basic survival! What a wimp!

I heard today that I did not get job #3. I saw the announcement about the girl who did, and it seems the only advantage she had on me is that she already lives in Vernon. I should be happy knowing that there are 2 other jobs I'm waiting to hear on, and that the one I didn't get was a one year term position. I'm feeling very low tonight and wondering what I'm doing wrong!

My contact in that office, a girl I used to work with, let me know that the VP head of the department for both jobs #3 and #4 spoke with the VP that would have been my boss if I'd gotten job #2 about me. We thought that was a good sign, but, of course, have no way of knowing what was said. My HR contact has also asked where the official record of my "wonderlink" test is located. I know that I scored 36 (apparently very high), but, apparently, someone is asking for the actual record. The boss who has this is away until Wednesday so I have offered to write it again...(could be risky)

On the plus side, my current job may have just gotten a bit more pleasant as I moved offices today and am in a better spot for me - with a window and a desk that allows my area to be open to the common area. It is much more comfortable than I"d expected!

    Trying to stay positive....

this could mean there weren't enough diverse applicants. My BF works in upper management for a large petro-chemical company, and he often tells me they can't hire candidate A until they have interviewed a specified number of diverse candidates (e.g., women, racial minorities, etc.).

sorry to hear that you didn't get the position, but sounds like you have a lot of opportunities including some additional benefits at your current job that weren't there previously. Sounds like your current job might be trying to woo you back, but don't forget why you started looking in the first place......

    GOOD LUCK!
    Cheers!

Aw, thanks Cindy! It's nice to have that perspective! Feels a little less like I have to analyse what I'm doing wrong in my interviews...even though I may follow up on that anyway.

When the boss for job #3 phoned and told me they were going with another candidate, I asked him what she had that I didn't. He said something about administrative background, then reminded me that it was a term position. The announcement about the girl who got the job was posted, saying that she has 15 years of administrative experience .... I have 20! I think that he was struggling to find a reason that wasn't just...you get 4 weeks of vacation and this is a one year term!! Anyway, DH took his comment as a dig and now he'd like to throttle the guy....so, when we finally get down there I'll have to make a point of not introducing them for a good year or so! heehee

I'm not about to forget why we want to leave...riding season is not far away and we are both eager to do our training where the cycling community is not poisonous and the trails are not beleaguered. And I can't forget that all of my extra efforts at work have gone unacknowledged and I was recently overlooked for a promotion that was not advertised that only two of us had the skills to do....I wasn't even told it would exist until after the other girl got it....

so....my saying I'm happy about the changes is just my way of trying to find the good thing in an otherwise bleak situation. I'm not about to forget whey I want to leave!!

    <grin>

Keeping my fingers crossed for the next one...

    Namaste,

    >>>>>>>>>>sending positive job energy your way>>>>>>>> I hope that things work out for you soon and you land the position you want WHERE you want to be!
Don't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches

The ups and downs are because you *care* about this... and that's a good thing. So Ride 'em out like you would a big hill and keep on pedaling and keep on caring. Don't let the *&(^* get you down - a positive attitude and energy is important no matter which ways the winds blow
