How many remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when the first man ever to walk on the moon took his first step? I do!

I remember, and I was only 5 years old and no idea what was happening. But I knew it was very important.

(Also it was my brother's first birthday.)

I remember it very well. I was in 8th grade and my parents let me stay up late to watch it on TV - in black and white! It touched me deeply then and it still does now.

I was a young mother, holding my 3 month old daughter so she could see, and explaining to her how important this was!

    I was 15.
We had moved to Florida in March and I was back in Massachusetts for the summer, helping my aunt, who had just had her 3d kid. She had to go back to the hospital for some kind of surgery, so I was watching with my uncle, also on a black and white TV. He was going nuts, like it was some kind of science fiction story, come true. I was probably watching through some kind of drug induced haze, and I couldn't figure out what the big deal was .
In retrospect, it's a very bittersweet memory for me. My uncle (by marriage) died when he was 52 and since he was the one that kept my aunt sane, let's just say things were never the same.

I wasn't born but I am a huge space geek. He was extremely admirable in his dedication to the bigger cause and he was so brave. RIP Neil Armstrong.

My family had taken a day trip to Yosemite that day. I remember listening to it on the car radio as we drove through Yosemite valley. When we got home that night we watched the replay on the evening news... on our black and white TV.

Wasn't born yet when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, but I've been to the Armstrong museum in Wapokeneta, OH, may times over the years. As a kid, it was amazing. Last time I was there, it was run down, but still pretty cool. When I heard the news yesterday, my first thought was to hop in the car and head 3+ hrs up I75 and pay my respects in Wapok. Didn't, but kinda wish I had...
