Little Red Riding Hood in Utah

Hey Sadiekate (and anyone else who has ridden this) how do you rate this century? Would it be a good one for a slow newbie?

My aim is to do at least one if not two century rides this year and I originally thought Bike around the Buttes and the Moonlight Magic ride might be the ones. Unfortunately for riding (but good for company) I have family visiting thru out the year and my Mum's visit falls just before the Moonlight Magic so I think that one will have to be left until next year.

I need to have a ride to aim for to keep motivation up and a goal on the horizon. I have thought of just riding one on my own around here but I like the idea of riding some place new and seeing some new sights. I love Utah so I thought this might be perfect.

I am still going to try to do the Bike around the Buttes but we have a trip planned to DC around that time so I will just have to wait and see when the ride date comes out for that one.

Talking/typing ride dates how long before the rides do they normally post the registration stuff? Neither ride has this years date up on their sites yet.

Any info and advice you can offer about this ride would be great.

Effort wise, very comparable to BOB. I'm planning to go this year otherwise yellow might wreck some disastrous deed on me. Of course, by then she'll be totally aclimated to the elevation and have learned to ride flatland, so she'll kick our posteriors anyway.

Beautiful countryside, low traffic, friendly locals, good support, elevation not horrible (6,000? I can't remember). A very cute T-shirt was part of the very reasonable entry fee. Hat and shortsleeve or sleeve-impaired ( a spazzism) jersey available for purchase. Did you see the pics of the jersey or ride in other posts? I can repost a link if you want. The MS 150 ride also covers the same roads.

Let's talk. Bubba is talking about driving the trailer out with the bikes and serving as our personal wrenchboy. I need to figure out who wants a spot reserved. We also have to figure out how many bikes can go on the trailer. This would allow the rest of us to fly or have an Amtrak party.

It was June 4th last year, the first Saturday in June and same day as the Sierra Century.

Petunia and I drove home after the ride by way of Red Rock Brewing for fish and chips and freshed brewed Root Beer, Cream Soda and Orange Soda. Alcoholic beer can be found there also, I understand.

Wow sounds like a great plan. Amtrak Im assuming is train? I love train trips.
Anyway back to topic I will have to talk to my other half when he rings next (yes he is away again) and check that he will be around. If it looks a bit iffy I will meet you all there this way if he gets sent on a trip I wont be upsetting anyones plans by pulling out. Still havent managed to work out how to balance three little ones on my bike yet and still ride so I will definitely need him home to babysit.

If he has no trips planned for that time I think he can mark it out early as required leave days and then unless all hell breaks loose he wont be picked out for a trip OS.

Oooh Im starting to get excited this sounds like fun and knowing faster riders means they can save some food for me at the end.

the cats can stay home for 2 days alone... (although i'm sure bailey would eat all the food the first day! PIG!)

Dont tell your Hubby I said this but you could leave him at home on animal sitting duty and enjoy a trip away with the girls.

My gosh! Haven't you all been chatty about this while I've been off otherwise keeping busy.

What fun we will have! I would be happy to look in to lodging options. If it's looking like you can go/are going, PM me and let me know (1) your lodging choice (i.e., camping or motel/hoteling) and (2) how many nights you might need such accommodation. And I'll do some sleuthing and see what's available between here (Salt Lake) and Wellsville that might be suitable.

Cali--you need to make a trip of it and do some mtn biking in southern UT since you'd be driving through there anyhow (there are some higher elev areas there that will still be realtively cool at that time of year). Could you haul road bikes and mt bikes and hubby and dog?

Re: beer....well, yes, most of it's 3.2, but there are several breweries in/around SLC that offer some tasty bevs (some of which I believe are full strength....we're still deciphering the liquor laws) and food. I look at it this way: at 3.2, I can sample more! In addition to Red Rock there is Squatters--which also has brewed-right-there root beer, martini-type drinks (as long as you also order food...can't have them at the "bar" ), and a cool four-person tandem hanging in the dining room-- and Desert Edge Brewery (which doesn't have a website), which is our fave. And there is the Bohemian, which has the best Vienna lager around. And I think Uinta has a taproom too but we haven't been there yet. So much beer, so little money.

This plan is sounding GRAND! I added the ride over on bikejournal. Perhaps those that are going could add themselves to the list so it would be easier to keep track of everyone?????

Of course, we'd still need to converse here about housing and transportation needs. Yellow, you are a dear. Let me know if you'd like me to dredge up the name of last year's ride director. She might be able to help out. I'm not sure that they had ever had foreigners at their ride before. Petunia and I certainly got the google-eye look for just about every volunteer and rider when they heard we had come from Kali-fo-nia.

Oooh I do like to feel special. They might wonder at Australia having so many great riders after they see how slow I ride.

Great idea on adding ride at BJ I will be sure to put my name down. I spoke to my other half tonight and he thinks he will be around in June so its looking good for a 100 miles of self inflicted torture.

Hey TrekHawk, Sounds like you and I may be a perfect match up for the ride. I was also wondering if I could start early and still hope to make it back before times up.

Since I would be coming down from the north, Logan looks to be the best place for me to stay. Yellow, It's great you can do a little recon work for us. We'll all owe you a drink or two.

This is getting exciting! Maybe all this will help with my training.

Hey BikerHen sounds like a good plan. Im sure it makes it easier if you have someone to ride part/or all of the way with.
