Smile First Night Mt Bike Ride

    Hi All,
We went on our first night trail ride last night. We were able to borrow lights from a riding buddy. Thanks to all of you that have given me feedback on the lights. I borrowed a helment mount halogen. I liked it on my helmet, but did not like having to run it on the low setting. My hubby borrowed a bar mount so we can compare notes.

Anyway, after about the first 15 min, I loved it. I was a bit tentative at first, and then relaxed and let it rip. The trails were not too technical, no big obstacles or steep drops, so it was a great place to start. We rode for two hours, and I was tired and hungry and wet and muddy and did I mention hungry, when we got done, but what a blast.

So....now I am hooked, on riding in the snow and riding at night...maybe I can hope for a snowy night!

Wow I'm impressed! I'm a roadie, and found my one and only trail ride a little bit too technical for me so didn't pursue it. Really admire MTB folks tho'. I reckon you MTBers are such gutsy people. My hubby prefers MTBing to road, but he's a much better cyclist than me.

So to do that all at NIGHT! I don't know how you do it.

    Good one!!!!!

I haven't tried "real" mountain biking at night yet, but we've just starting night riding this week. Last night the dirt roads and fields on campus had finally drained enough we could get off the paved paths. It's funny how not being able to see beyond your light means you're more relaxed. You only worry about the obstacle in front of you rather than stuff 30 feet ahead.

Huge owl flew only a few feet over our heads last night. Awesome.

It also makes long climbs seem shorter as you can't look very far ahead and realise how long it goes on for you just suddenly find yourself at the top. You also learn to trust your bike to find its way on the descents (cos you can only see what is close to our front wheel). Excellent fun.
