    Cracked head tube

Ugh! Took my bike in for some minor adjustments and they found a crack in the head tube. It's a Scott Contessa and I guess it's a known problem and is covered under warranty. The LBS said all I need to do is bring in my receipt....Well, I just moved less than a month ago to a new home in the same city and cannot find it anywhere. I bought the bike from this particular shop and they remember me well as we've bought more than one bike there and many parts. If it's a known Scott problem do I really need the receipt for Scott? I have to go there today and am not sure how to handle it beside cry and beg. Any advice?

Is the warranty applicable only to the original owner? Maybe that's why they want to see your receipt. I'm betting that both the new shop and Scott would accept a statement from your former dealer. In fact, your former dealer may even be able to provide you with a copy of your receipt.

I'm hoping you are right. This is the Scott dealer I bought it from and they said they don't have the receipt but that they know know I got it from them. Hopefully that will be enough. They seem to know the Scott rep well.

Hopefully the other shop has your back, as Artista said. If you left the sticker from the shop on the frame, even better.

I'm not at a new shop. I only moved across town. I'm using my original shop where I bought the bike, so yeah, they will have my back if it matters to Scott. But the shop is the one as of right now saying Scott needs the receipt. I searched for it and have to go in today to see what my options are. I know the bike shop will do what they can for me.

hmmm wonder what point of sale and accounting they use. We always put customer bike purchases in our system and is super easy to re print an invoice or a sales receipt

How did you pay for the bike? Credit card? Check? Both methods leave enough of a record that you could prove a payment to the shop of an amount appropriate for the bike purchase.

Well I went in today to see what can be done without a receipt. They use the very old handwritten receipt and save copies in boxes in the closet. They are searching the box base on the months and year I bought the bike in. I can't remember the exact date late Apr.-early June 2009 are the boxes they are digging through. They are also going to call Scott to see what can be done. I hope they can find it!

WooHooo!! Bike shop found the receipt. I'm getting a new frame! Hopefully fast cause I've gotta train on my 20 year old MTB until I get the replacement. Feel like I won a prize or something today

    What a relief!!!
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.
