Rock Shox rear shock: SID XC vs 2003 U-Turn?

Hi ladies,

I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I just got a 2001 Univega XC fully, but the current RS SID XC is leaking. I was thinking of replacing it either with another SID XC or perhaps with U-Turn? If any of you have any experience with either of the two, or preferably both, it would be awesome if you could give me some tips on which one to choose.

edit: I should have clarified, I am replacing my rear shock. Admittedly, the trouble arises when googling these two as well, since the search returns forks mostly

First, my strong suggestion is to go to your LBS. The Sid fork that you have now is more than likely a 80mm fork(if it's a 2001) the current Sid forks are meant for 100mm of suspension, so this would greatly have an adverse affect on the handling of your bike. Your LBS can look and give you suggestions, and perhaps 'see' things that we don't here on the internet. There are still forks made with 80mm of travel, so you definitely have some options.

Thank you for the reply, but I am looking for a rear shock

The shocks I found are new, but they are old models from 2001 or 2002 (SID XC) and 2003 (U-Turn).

Eye-to-eye length matches for both, I am just wondering which shock would be a better option. I figured, since buying unused costs the same as servicing the one I have, I might as well go and replace it.

Thanks for the clarification; I did indeed think that you were talking about a front fork. The only suggestion that I can make is to make sure that the compression/travel is the same on any fork that you are looking at.

I'm assuming that you are buying an older shock online, so I'm not sure that it is any better deal than rebuilding your current shock. At least with having someone repair the existing shock, you'd have some sense of support if anything should happen. Again, perhaps you should ask your LBS if in their opinion if would make more sense to buy or rebuild.... they may know/see things about your current shock that we here in online world do not.
