I'm not asking about sombreros, but... (sun protection while riding)

My helmet with its rinky dink little visor doesn't give a lot of sun protection on my face. I ride early (I'm already home from this morning's ride) but as my rides get longer and longer I can't avoid the sun. Yes, I lather up with sun screen and I know I'll have to carry it with me for longer rides to keep it on.

Does anything exist which gives a little more shade to the face? The visor covers such a small patch of the face, the very-very front only, and forget about even shading the cheeks. If that visor, short as it is, had more of a wrap around feature around your head it would be more useful.

Does anything exist like that? Or, if you want to simulate a wide brimmed hat (or if not wide-brimmed, at least one that wrapped more around your head and not only shaded the front), what do you do?

    Gracias senoritas!

You can wear one of these under your helmet.

They're great in the rain, too.

These are adorable. I guess you have tried sunscreens and/or blocks? Sports blocks last longer and are good for the nose and high cheeks.

A French Legion hat under the helmet would give back/sides of neck coverage and has a visor also.

TE also has one of those. Search cycling headwear.

    Thanks everyone!

Those are a good start, but I was thinking of protection that wrapped around my head more - and I'm not even talking 360, even 120-180 would be nice. A frontal visor will shade the eyes and maybe nose, but will do nada for the cheeks or even the "crows feet" area...

Be careful not to wear something that impedes your peripheral vision.

Sunglasses and sunscreen should do the job safely.

Well, I'm blind in one eye anyway, so nothing on that side... good point though.

Even though I do have a small visor on my helmet, wear sunblock and sunglasses, I've gotten to a point there's not much more I can do for face sun protection.

I mean I am out daily and live a sunnier part of Canada (even in very cold winter).

At safety equipment stores you can buy brims for hard hats which should fit a cycle helmet. (stiffened fabric ring with a stretchy cuff in the middle).

A friend of mine who cycled heaps (and a former postie) wore one on his helmet.

Along these same lines, there is an equestrian version that fits around riding helmets.
