Wanted: XS road bike for my daughter

    To disable ads, please log-in.

My daughter desperately wants to join me and her grandmother at Venus de Miles this year. She needs a road bike! We're looking for a 24" or 42 or 44cm road bike for her. We really want to keep it under $400.

    Thanks!

I'd check craigslist or ebay. There's a 44cm Trek KDR 1000 available on ebay right now.

I really think the only size women's bike that will work is a 42cm. The girl is small for her age and only 4'5". I found a 42cm on Nashbar on sale for $300, but it's still going to be a bit too big for probably a year as is for sure bottom of the barrel specs. Otherwise I'd like a Trek KDR 1000 (not made since '08) or a felt f24 (haven't found one for under $550) that were specifically made for kids.

Fuji has some very small road bikes, including a 650 wheeled one and a 24 inch wheeled bike: http://2010.fujibikes.com/Kids/Road.aspx

The 650 may be too big but the 24" may be in the ballpark. But as is typical of kids bikes and the price point the components aren't the best. I am 4'11" and am sympathetic. I have a 43cm Trek Madone and it is barely small enough for me.

The Felt 24 is nice but it is hard to justify the price with a growing kid.

Ooo...the fuji's look great. Now to try to find one.....

BTW, the one at Nashbar was $300 OFF, not $300. Bummer.

    Thanks all.
