Weather - The Yin and the Yang

Talk about a prime week for cross-training -

Monday it was 45 degrees F. A friend and I went to a state park where they do snow making for XC skiing. It's a short loop of 1.2 km, but it's something. First time out this season as it's mostly been above 20 degrees and not good for snow making. The snowmakers/groomers have really worked hard to make this happen this year.

Tuesday it was 45 degrees again, so I went for my first bike ride of 2012. I've been doing spin classes since November, and not riding outdoors. I wasn't sure what kind of shape the MUP would be in, so I took my hybrid. Glad I did, as I ran into several frosty patches which weren't too bad on the hybrid. Turned around when I hit a particularly shady mile that still had a lot of ice. But I got in 12 miles and it's the earliest in the year I've ever ridden. I also had forgotten how much heavier my hybrid bike is than my roadie. Tuesday night I had a spin class. My legs were not happy on Wednesday.

Today I'm plowing snow - six inches so far. Maybe snowshoeing on Saturday?

It's been crazy here too. Thursday I did my pre-dawn run bareheaded and in shorts (it was 45F) and today we had a -3F windchill, 15F real temp, when I took my dog out for her morning walk. At least there's a dusting of snow out there, not enough to cause trouble getting around but pretty.
