Most of the apps I use the most I learned about from net discussion. I thought it might be fun to share some of the add ons, there is a lot out there....I'm not including the ones that came with the phone.

Gas Buddy - find cheap gas
Flashlight - I am surprised at how handy this has been
MW Dictionary. I love looking up definitions on the fly.
Yelp restaurant reviews on the fly
Star Walk astonomy app, OMG this is so cool and you do not have to be connected to a data network or wifi for it to work. I used it in the Grand Canyon!!
Grocery IQ.Keeps all my lists in one place.

TextFree (free texting...I don't pay for texting and it's not included in my phone plan)

Hulu+ (watch tv shows on my phone)

Pinterest (goes with the http://www.pinterest.com site...which is a highly addictive way to organize favorites visually)
Walgreens (love renewing prescriptions by scanning them!)
KeyRing (so I don't have to carry around store loyalty cards!)
Ebay (app is easier than the website)

USBank/ING (love that I can take a picture to deposit checks with USBank!)
TomTom (navigation...way cheaper than buying a separate gps unit)

I have an Ipod touch - basically an Iphone without the phone...
My favorites that I have right now are

Overdrive - for getting library books/e-reader
Kotoba - a Japanese dictionary (romanji, kana and kanji!) that I'm hoping comes in handy when I go there in January
Mango Languages - free library edition - taking free (good) Japanese lessons courtesy of my public library.
Free RSS
Smack the Gugl - its a game....

I bought PhotoForge for my Ipad (which I'm going to use to dump photos on during my trip) - I'm super impressed with its capabilities for $5.

I'm boring. I use mostly the following:

Facebook
MapQuest
Kindle
Fruit Ninja (really stupid time-suck game)
Sudoku
Runkeeper (GPS device for tracking my runs)
Junos Pulse (VPN app to access my work network from anywhere)

I also have recently installed and only started working with:

ScanBizCards - where you scan a business card and it puts it into contacts for you
BookHabit - Keeps track of books you read - I haven't even begun playing with this one yet
Rotate&Crop - to crop photos I took with the iphone before posting to facebook or somewhere else
TreeID - to identify trees when I travel but I haven't used it yet


And my calendar, notes and contacts from Outlook sync.

I'd love to find an Android app that tells me if my garage door is closed ... for the all too many times I start wondering (generally when I'm a few blocks away) if I actually closed the garage door on my way out.

Any idea if an app like that exists?

I bank with Capital One, and their app is useful for finding the nearest ATM when you're out and about.

IMDB - So I can look up all the guest stars on Inspector Lewis to figure out why they look so familiar.

I agree, most of the weather apps are pretty lame. I wish the NOAA page would come out with one. That is where I like to get my weather. I have it book marked and can use it on the phone but it is kind of a pain.

The Weather Channel app used to be much better, but they "improved" it into limited usefulness.

Hands down my favorite app is Brewery Map

But I also frequent dictionary.com for the English and Spanish words of the day, Groupon, Google Earth, and Huffington Post. I agree with the lame-weather-apps assessment. I have several that I consult but I don't love any of them.

I used Google Earth while watching Lawrence of Arabia, to get a sense of where they were and where they were trying to go. It was fun, and useful to learn about an area of the world that I've never been to.

I use many of the ones already named, so I'll just add slightly to the list:

Shush: designates a time to unsilence your phone automatically. For example if you go to a movie, you silence for 3 hours or whatever and not miss calls/texts due to a silenced phone.

Latitude: lets you add friends and track their location. My husband and I use this constantly and especially like it when one of us is alone on a long ride - I like that he would know where to find me if something went wrong!

Poynt and Poynt Inside - nice for finding things. The latter helps you find specific things in malls, airports, etc.

Gesture search is kinda cool - just write what you're looking for and find it in your phone. I use it to find contacts.

oh, and Dolphin Browser is a way better browser than the stock browser, at least on android.
