No, I am not going out late at night stealing bikes but take a look at this YouTube clip, I was surprised at how easy some U-locks are to open.

Thankfully, I think most of the locks bought in the last few years are flat style keys. What surprised me is that this seems to be a recent video. It appears that Master lock is still selling these, and saying they can't be broken. Interesting....

The video was uploaded 2 years ago, so not that recent. But it sure was interesting, I'll be sure to check my next U-lock has flat keys. From the comments below the video it appears Masterlock replaced the lock for him.

    Old news

This became widely acknowledged in 2004, all the major companies like Kryptonite immediately dropped the cylinder key style and went to flat key style. I know Kryptonite was very good about their replacement policy, a 'no questions asked no receipt needed' deal where you sent them the old crossbar and key and they sent you a new assembly.

Unfortunately, flat keys are as prone to bumping as the cylinder key was to this technique.

I also got mine replaced by Kryptonite a few years ago without problem. This is old news and those locks should not be being sold anymore.
