    Water bottle cage alternatives

My mom just got a new bike! It's a Trek 7100 with a step through frame and 13.5" (she's very short). With her arthritis she can get on and off the bike easily. She's been riding, or mostly not riding, a mountain bike, and she was amazed at how fast she goes on her new hybrid, and how comfortable it is.

She has one problem, the frame doesn't permit a water bottle cage. I'd like to suggest some alternatives to her.
I'll mention the camelback, I think she can try out my dad's, but she might not like the way it makes the water taste, or having a sweaty back.

She found a bag that she was able to make work for her water bottle, for her first, 30 min ride.

Do jersey pockets hold onto a water bottle ok? She thought that might work, but I'm dubious.

Would something like this mount or this one work?

I picked up a belt at REI that holds 2 standard size water bottles on my lower back. I like it much better than the CamelBak.

Would a side loading cage fit?

I like the ones that mount under the saddle - I've seen lots of people use them well.

A jersey will definitely fit a water bottle if it's got the standard size pockets. When it's 100+ out here and I'm planning a long ride, I carry a third bottle in my jersey pocket no problem.

Thanks! These are very helpful. I'll see what she & Dad think.

And if you freeze that third bottle before you put it in your jersey pocket, it will keep you a little cooler for a bit, and be melted by the time you need it.

What kind of riding is she doing? If it is not too hardcore, maybe a basket on the front of her bike?
I couldn't fit a cage on my old comfort bike, so I used to ride with one of those Nike sling bags with a bottle or two of water in it. I would do rides of up to 15 miles and it didn't bother me at all.

It really depends on the jersey, and the size of the person inside it. You see the pro men do it ... of the four styles of jersey I own, only one has pockets big enough for water bottles. But my 4-oz phone bounces all over the place when I climb hills (yeah, yeah, smoother pedal stroke, I know ). I can't imagine a pound and a half of water in my pocket.
