    Bike grease and...carpet!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

My bike threw up on the carpet this morning. I was changing the tire out for the cheapy I bought for the trainer, and dropped the wheel...on the one spot near my bike that ISN'T covered by my cheap rug or cardboard. . What's the best way to get it out without damaging the carpet?
At least I don't leave slime trails.

We did this once. HUGE ugly winter bike glob on the carpet. I called a carpet cleaner. They said "DONT TOUCH IT" They came by and it was gone in 2 minutes. Apparently, if we had scrubbed it into the fibers....it would not have been so easy.

Dawn dish soap...gets the grease out

    squirt directly onto grease smear.
    add warm water.
blot and lift - don't scrub and spread it.

    Spot Shot

Try Spot Shot...we've had GREAT luck getting just about anything you can imagine out of carpets. Including copy machine toner at work. It's almost a miracle. I think you can find this in most grocery stores. Good luck!

+1 for spot shot, My new puppy decided to jump into a cup of redcolored crystal light, a bad stain. Don't rub, just spray and blot and the red dye #2 was gone.

Toluene will get roofing tar off carpets, so would likely work on bike grease as well. Approx $15/gal.

dh the gas and oil guy says yes toluene will work but do be careful of fumes which are poisonous and flammable at certain high concentrations.

    good luck with that grease.
