WANTED: Used pair of Sidi Genius 4 or 5, size 38 or 39

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I would like to find a lightly-used pair of Sidi Genius 4 or 5 women's cycling shoes in a size 38 or 39. I am currently using a pair of Specialized Road Comp Women's shoes (size 37) and they are not working for me at all. I would be willing to trade (+ a few bucks) or buy the Sidis from anyone who would like to get rid of theirs. I am keeping my eye on Ebay, but I thought I would try here, too. Thanks!

    used Sidis

Are you sure you have the size conversion right? I wear a 6.5 US size, and usually 37 Euro... I replaced my worn Sidis last year (36 or 37)--though I think I tossed them, and now wear 38s in Sidi. But I found great deals by checking the clearance section at bike shops--esp. such small sizes, they're often less than 1/2 price!

Just a second comment on the size. I wear a size 5.5 or 6 US size, and I also wear a size 38 Sidi. These shoes run small...

(Just for comparison purposes, I checked the Merrell's I am wearing today. They are a US size 6 and a European size 36.)

    as the shoe fits...

And men wonder why we shop so often? Even among brands I like--they change sizing one year to the next, or even between styles the fit is different. And shoes are easy compared to what's between neck and ankle!

But on the Sidi--true they are smaller. I wouldn't want to wear the 38 walking around much, but comfortable for riding (road). But add in how thick are your socks, and how your toes are shaped, etc. will affect what fit you like.

But I still say for us gals with smaller feet, we can often benefit by scouring in the clearance racks!

I'm always envious of people with small feet when the sales roll around. I think 90% of the populartion must be an 8 or an 8.5 - there's never anything nice left in my size. Suppose it could be worse though. Can't imagine there's much to choose from in the first place if you're a 10 or a 10.5...

Sierra Trading Post has the Sidi Lightnings in 37, 38 and 39. I know they're not the Genius, but they are $70...http://tinyurl.com/cf7cv

I "settled" for these as interum shoes until I could get my hands on a pair of those red Sidi Doms, and have been very happy with them. They have the Millenium II sole. I won't upgrade road shoes until I kill them. My feet were instantly cooler, more comfortable, able to stretch out, and immensely lighter. (I wear a 39 in Sidi, 38 in Shimano, 6 or 6.5 US street shoes, 7 or 7.5 US running shoes, 37 Birkenstocks, and 4 or 5 British-sized Docs.)

Or, http://www.xxcycle.com has the Genius 5, new, for $160, but they are located in France. They ship to the US, though. Very tempting price, but you'd have to positively know your size, since returns would be a costly pain.

Which, unfortunately, makes me the Queen of Nowhere To Put Stuff. I just scored a pair of Hincapie Shoe Covers for 99 cents!

I found a couple of my favorite Shebeest s-cut tanks at Sierra Trading Post for $24, so now counting the two Presta Tanks from TE, on clearance, (TE clearance page- VERY dangerous!!!) and a Shebeest tank I bought from TE at full retail, and that Shebeest Coral Reef sleeveless jersey I found on eBay for $25, and a Primal sleeveless jersey, also from eBay, I never need to buy a summer jersey again in my life...

    Sidi Genius

Seriously now, Kaian, if you find you do fit in a 39.5 (I have the platinum colored Sidi Genius from about 1 yr ago) I can sell you a used pair, very very cheap. The wear is light. I also have Carnac road shoes I wear. I ended up with Sidi mtn bike shoes in a 40 and they fit much better and the 39.5 now feels like it bumps my toe tops too much. Sidis do indeed run small.

I just hate to have them sit in the closet once I get a new pair, that's more my concern than anything.

I found a pair of Genius 4s (silver w/blue and red)on Ebay for $90 and free shipping (brand new). I just got them yesterday and tried them out. Size 39 seems to fit pretty good length-wise (I have a little extra room in the toe area - not much, but enough for comfort). I'm normally a size 7-7 1/2 women's U.S. I like them, however, I have freakishly narrow heels. It seems that no matter what kind of shoes I get (cycling and regular), my heels are always slipping around. When I crank the shoes tight (almost as tight as they will go), they don't slip, but when I start spinning, it puts a lot of pressure on the top of my foot and I have to loosen them. I've always heard that Sidi's are one of the more narrower shoes, so I'm not sure if I should figure out how to make these work or get something else. Are some Sidi's more narrow than others?

Sidi shoes used to come in widths. I just checked the http://www.sidiusa.com site, and it looks like one of the men's shoes (1 mtb and 1 road, that is) come in a narrow. But I didn't see a woman's narrow shoe. That said, I remember a number of years ago having to exchange a Sidi shoe because of a width issue (and they were women's shoes). It might be worth a call to a bike shop that carries Sidi shoes to see if there is currently a width option.

If you're really willing to sell them, I might want to give them a shot. I've got a 39 Nike Ventoux (in pink, of course) that are my summer shoes, because they fit great with thin socks but are wearing out, and a pair of Sidi Lightening in a 40, which fit good with heavy winter socks, so I might really like a 39.5. PM me with details!
