It was about 58 degrees for us this morning; probably drank about 16oz on my 2 hour ride - less than I normally do by far because of the drastic temperature drop.

I posted about my ride in the Labor Day Weekend thread, but I had a quick question. It was about 64˚F this morning when I left for my 22 mile ride with a stiff wind of 20+. Now, normally, on this ride I drink about 2 liters of water before all is said and done - but, normally, on this ride it's about 110˚ outside. Today I barely drank at all - is that ok? I never felt dehydrated or thirsty (just wind whipped). Do you have to hydrate as much in cool weather as in hot? Certainly I was sweating, but not nearly as much as usual. What's typical intake for you ladies in more pleasant parts of this country?
Thanks!

I always make a conscious effort to drink during rides, however cool it is or how un-thirsty I am. I am not saying 'slosh away' but drink before you are thirsty, as by the time you are, you are dehydrated. When it is hotter, I also try to drink more electrolyte drinks and have bloks/chews. If you are working out and sweating, you should be drinking.
I used to get cramps when I went mountain biking in the 90s. I never took enough water (just a 70oz Camelbak for my 3 hr ride at 95f+), so I metered it out, always feeling thirsty, to make it last. Maybe I have grown smarts with age, but now I take 100oz of water + a 24oz bottle with electrolyte drink mix (GU). Today, I rode for 2 hrs, drank all the electrolyte, and 85% of the Camelbak. It was 81f to 93f on an out 'n back climb. Maybe that's a lot of water to some?? But I don't get cramps, never get thirsty, and the heat does not seem as bad.

I noticed today that I didn't seem to want to drink on the mountain bike, so I forced myself to drink a little every time I stopped. My frame is too small to mount a water bottle (FS), so all I have is my 100 oz Camelbak. I don't always fill it, but it is closer to full than not when I am on the trails...
When it's really hot I might drink an average of 2 ounces per mile, but maybe half that when it's cool.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

It was about 45 degrees with 15 mph winds when I headed out this morning for my ride. Rode 43 miles and finished about 20 oz. of Nuun. That was not quite enough. Had it been in the 80s, which it was until about 2 days ago, I would have normally finished about 60 ozs. of fluids on the ride.
