I recently purchased a pair of the Pearl Izumi Pro Tri shorts:

Super nice for a recumbent rider, as the pad is super thin. And I felt like the shorts were still very supportive. A bit pricey, but very nice looking. They are a super thin, breathable material. Its the first time I have tried a pair of shorts with what seems to be a more advanced material than a traditional lycra short.
I am wondering if anyone has tried tri shorts, and if they think they are less supportive than traditional cycling shorts. I really like the thickness and support of my Pearl Izumi Quest shorts, but the thick pad is simply not need on a recumbent. I did pull my hamstring slightly, but I was also lacking sleep on that ride, so it just may have been a coincidence.
Thanks for your input.
