    Saddle help

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am looking for a saddle that will provide comfort for 5-6 hours of biking a day for a trip to France. I am training 3x a week 30 miles though need to increase the amount of time on my bike over the summer. My sit bones are 130mm, I bought a SI gel flow (says Lady on the nose) and it seems way too narrow?, this is before I measured. Oops. I have biked for years and this is the first saddle that caused chafing right at the fold where my butt meets my leg. I never paid any attention to the saddles that worked for me in the past. Any ideas where to start? I never have problems with up front, a cut out is nice but not so important. I think I need a good T saddle.

    Thanks,

    Sarah

I'd bet money that it's too pear-shaped and maybe even too wide. My sit bones are 120-125mm and I had similar issues with a SI Lady Gel Flow...it was both too wide and too pear-shaped for me (as well as too soft). I've been MUCH happier on a Specialized Jett 143, which is very T-shaped. I'm actually contemplating moving to the even firmer Ruby in the same size.

50% of the people that rode the Paris-Brest-Paris were sitting on Brooks or other leather saddles. that's a 1200km ride in 90 hours. If you're not racing and freaked out about every ounce, you might look at a Brooks

    Chafing

Any thoughts on where chafing occurred? I didn't like the stitching on the SI saddle. Measured around 160? Maybe too pear? Pinching my extra meat at the top of my leg.

Exactly that spot! Will the Jett provide all day comfort?

I've done centuries on mine. My butt is usually the last place to complain. Actually, I really don't get ANY sit bone pain, nowadays.

I switched to the Jett 143 (my sitbones are in the 125-130 range)--and it's nearly perfect. It took some getting used to because it's a lot firmer than the Selle Italia I used to have, but my butt and girly bits aren't sore!
At least I don't leave slime trails.
