    Hill repeats

I have discovered a near-perfect hill in my neighborhood for climbing practice! It leads into a cul-de-sac, so there's less traffic (and fewer landscaping/lawn-care company trucks on it), and it isn't quite as steep or winding as my nemesis hill. It's also better practice because I can't use the descent leading up to it to get a little more momentum--there's a stop sign in the way.
The big thing for this is that descents terrify me. I'm going to give myself permission to walk back down if I feel I need to. I'll face that fear when I'm ready. First I have to get up the hill.

Tomorrow morning should be a good time to start this, as it's supposed to be cooler than normal. (Maybe I can slip in a short ride in the afternoon too? )
At least I don't leave slime trails.

Wished I lived near smaller roads. Big road I have to go on to get anywhere around here scares me with all the traffic at speed.

    Good luck!!

Good luck/have fun! I live in a little valley by a small river so anyway I go is uphill. It just depends what grade I want. I should do some hill repeats. My longer rides are all on flat terrain and I really need to get used to climbing before our tour.

How big/long should a hill for hill repeats be? How often do you climb it?

Are hill repeats meant for areas where you don't have long enough ascents, or do they have other benefits than long and steep climbs?
