That is so fun! Watching a kid get off the couch and out into the fresh air, very rewarding.

DD is such a couch-potato. When she said she wanted a bike, I jumped at the chance to encourage healthy habits. She picked out a Townie, and hasn't stopped grinning. Not what I would have chosen, but it's perfect for her. I'm excited to see where it will take her.

We realized that the last time she got to pick out a new bike, she was 7 (she's now 21). Since then she's had a couple of hand-me-downs. The last one didn't fit her at all well. I didn't realize how important that was until I got my own well-fitting bike. She got to choose the bike, style and color this time. She bounced up and down like a little kid when the LBS guy was getting it out for her. Such fun! She's had a rough year with a bad breakup and a nasty bout of depression/anxiety. Things are looking up for her now, and the bike can be a help in boosting her energy and self-esteem.

Good for her! I'm sure that a summer of riding will help her make a fresh start after her rough time.

We rode downtown today. A good 4+ miles each way. She was comfortable on the bike and very happy. I loved sharing one of my favorite things with her.

that Electra Townie has been the entry level bike for a lot of people. I hope it serves her well!

My brother bougtht a Townie for our dad a few years ago after a series of back injuries/surgeries prevented him from ever riding a road bike again. It's nice to see him back in the saddle and pedaling all around town, grinning like a little kid
This year's project is to get Mom on one.

Glad she loves her new bike. I had been off a bike for years and was really out of shape, and ended up choosing a Townie 3 speed. I soon realized that hills would be a problem, so DH bought a 21 speed Townie. Only time I've ever fallen off a bike and broke my wrist. Personally I never felt stable on the Townie - like the steering was squirrly. I did like the comfort of knowing my feet were closer to the ground.
I ended up buying my current Trek FX 7.3 and like it so much better.
I agree with the other poster that the Townie is an excellent entry or re-entry into the world of biking. I had so many kids and even teen aged boys say, "Your bike is cool".![]()
