Has anyone had a bike wrecked in shipping?

when shipping it UPS? Some friends are dealing with this and getting nowhere. They paid for insurance, and are still being denied any reimbursement.

What sort of "push back" are they getting from UPS? Is the insurance adequate or appropriate? Is there some question as to the physical coniditon of the bike prior to shipping? usually UPS is good. I had a bike damaged and they took care of it.

    As I understand it,

both bikes are beyond repair, and UPS is saying they won't pay. I suspect that they say they weren't packed right, or something. It sounds as though they're just getting a brick wall from UPS (or the insurer).

My son's $5,000 racing bike was damaged when shipped by UPS in 2003. The guy came out and checked it and said they would not pay a dime. It wasn't a major thing, but we ended up paying for the repair. They were nasty to him, too.
