    Ultegra shifters (warranty issue)

So I've been having this ongoing issue with my Ultegra shifters ever since I brought home my Cannondale from the dealer last May. I've been back and forth to the shop with the bike, complaining over and over that something was NOT right with the shifting. They would check things out, make a minor adjustment here and there, tell me that "that's just the way it is" and send me on my way. The front shifting is hard, heavy, extremely difficult to move the lever and shift from the small ring to the big one. The issue with the rear is that the shifts don't complete properly causing the chain to skip and jump constantly. It gets so bad at times (like today for example), that the bike is only rideable in 1 or 2 gears and that's it. Today was the breaking point for me. I finally got fed up with the crappy shifting on a $3,000 bike!!!! I rode to a LBS (NOT my dealer) on my way home from a 70 mile ride, and had them take a look at both the front & rear shifting. Within minutes, the guy said there is definitely something wrong with the rear. After a long process of elimination, he determined that it was a malfunctioning shifter and told me to have it replaced under Shimano's warranty at my dealer. I rode home from that shop, threw the bike in our SUV and drove to my dealer. They are always SO thrilled to see me walk in (I'm quite a regular with all the problems I've had...they all know me). I quickly explained what the other shop told me and after a quick inspection and running through all the gears...they too, concluded that the rear shifter is all jacked up and needs to be replaced. I told them, if they are replacing the rear shifter...then I want the front one replaced too. It only makes sense to replace them as a set, since that is the way they are sold. So...that is that. I'm just finally glad to have those crappy shifters GONE, and can only hope and pray that the replacement set works the way Ultegra shifters are supposed to. I'll post an update when I get my bike back.

I upgraded to Ultegra 6700 shifters last year. It seems as if I'm having some of the same problems you are. I have some major skipping and on the Livestrong ride last year, my chain dropped three times. I'll have to look into this.

    Thanks for the info!
