I finally got permission from my boss to say something about thisIn 2012, there are plans to experiment with a bike sharing program in the downtown area of Indianapolis

From what I understand, the bikes will be free, but you have to present a credit card or drivers license in order to borrow one, so they know who "checks" them out. There would be assorted mini-stations across the downtown area from which to check them out and return them. The idea is they would be used just in the downtown area.
That is all the information I can provide, but it sounds like an interesting opportunity! I do not know what kind of bikes will be available, and of course, things can change before then.

Very cool! A bike sharing program rolled out in Miami Beach a few weeks ago and 20,000 bikes have been shared since--it's not free though. It would have been nice if it were.
awesome!
