    pelvic rotation

I am almost done with ChiRunning by Dreyer, however, since the form pretty much is the same with the ChiWalking (exception of the way the foot lands and the lean) I decided to start walking.

I am not understanding how to rotate the pelvis as he states in the book. For all I know I could be doing it, I can't really tell. I feel like it may be working when I think in my head what he says about running then walking around a pool.

Am I thinking too much into this? I think I have almost everything else down pat as long as I concentrate on them.

When I did the workshop there was an exercise we did standing, lengthening our stance as far as we could with the pelvis square, then trying it with the pelvis rotated back towards the rear leg. It really helped get the feel of both how and why to do it.

I had an easier time feeling the pelvis rotation when walking. Once I felt the "chandelier motion" that he describes in the book, it became easier to feel it while running. The related warm up exercise helped me find that rotation point in my spine.

For me, rotation was the hardest part to "get". Hang in there- it will click!

Pelvic rotation really helps keep my lower back happy. I concentrate on rotating towards the leg that is behind me. If you get his email newsletter, he may have a U-tube link showing the pelvic rotation.

Also, did I understand that you're running around a pool? If so, I'm thinking that running in a straight line might help you get the feel of it.

Thanks for all of your responses. I will sign up for the newsletter. I forgot about that.

For the pool, I was quoting one of his scenarios that he had in the book describing the technique. I am not personally walking around a pool

Pelvic Rotation, ChiRuning Style - You Tube It!

Well it may be about 2 months to late to weigh in on this question of yours, but since I am currently reading ChiRunning, I too have been wondering about various postures and movements described. To see it in action, I simply go to you tube and type in ChiRunning, then whatever particular thing you're wondering about.
