DH got clipped by a car on his commute

I wasn't sure if this should go in crazy drivers or here.. but I'm putting it here.

My DH was commuting home last night around 9:45 pm. Three bright lights and a hi-viz jacket.... A car came up from behind turned right in front of him at an intersection. He got bumped by the car, fell down and fractured his scapula, plus various road rash kinds of problems. Ugh!

The driver apparently didn't see him (don't know how that happened) and didn't stop. There were a couple witnesses but no one got a license plate or anything. So it's just hit and run.

DH didn't even call me- actually rode 2 miles home, came in and said, "I got hit by a car. I'm not sure I'm okay" (couldn't raise his left arm), - I drove him to the ER where we waited and waited. Eventually had to go home to sleep....he had to take a taxi home because I had to go to work.

Anyway- it was upsetting! DH should be okay in a month or so (that's what the ER doc said- will go to an orthopedic doc this week).

Oh, man. Hope he heals up quickly and completely.

Is there any chance the cops in your area might actually look for the perp?

Terrible story - so sorry to hear about it. I've already passed on my comments on the fractured scapula (having had one) to your DH on the other board , but here's sending a big hug to YOU for the scare and for the upcoming caretaking.

Oh my goodness, that's terrifying. I hope he's feeling better soon. And I really hope they find the person who did it.

I can't believe he rode home!

    Thanks for the kind thoughts

I was there when the policeman wrote a report at the hospital, but DH did not even see what kind of car or gender of the driver, much less the license plate. They would have done something otherwise....

He is a pretty tough guy- ran 50 miles on Saturday (Old Pueblo 50 mile endurance run)- then rode his bike 20 miles rt on Monday- and the road rash is quite superficial. He is complaining about his side- no broken rib but maybe some soft tissue damage going on there.

He's not actually sure about all the details, but thinks the car hit his front wheel, he was braking and he fell down onto the road, then pulled himself and the bike out of the intersection. He doesn't even know if he hit the car himself.

Yes, I would say he's pretty tough - a cancer survivor too.

Hugs to you both. That driver was a careless idiot, who should not be allowed to drive.

I found the best people to talk to after my side swipe were my lbs guys. My friends who don't ride didn't understand, and that was frustrating. I hope his friends understand. You kind of want to smack them when they start defending the driver.

(((HUGS))) Hope your husband will heal up quickly.

We saw the aftermath of a car having hit a cyclist on Saturday on our way home. Saw in the paper the cyclist was taken to the hospital, but will be fine, no major injuries is what was reported. The person who hit him was cited (car actually did not leave the sceen). What we saw was two cop cars, a car with some damage and a bike laying in the grass.

How awful that he got hurt, compounded by the fact that the jerk got away with it. I hope your DH heals quickly. May I ask what road he was on, out of curiosity?
