My husband and I are converting a downstairs room into a fitness room and we're looking at equipment. He'd like to have a trainer with a computer that simulates, ie., part of Tour de France Stage. I don't have any model names in front of me right now but Bike Nashbar has a couple on sale. The reviews I've read point towards the lower priced models not being very good, the moderately priced models ($800 or so) are a good ride, and so on. None of the reviews say how long these trainers last, though, and I'm concerned that we could spend $800 on something that will break down after a few rides. Does anyone here have one of these/know anyone who has one to say whether or not they're worth it?
My preference is to get a rowing machine. I like the Concept II, but I've seen a combination recumbent bike/rowing machine that cost around $800. It gets good reviews. I know the Concept II tends to cost a little more, so I'm sure the quality of a combo wouldn't be as good. DH says he's more likely to use a recumbent bike than a rowing machine, thus the idea of going with the combo.
Any suggestions?
