A hit and run that hit close to home

There was another hit and run accident involving a cyclist in our area on Thursday. She was found unconscious lying along the side of the road with head and other injuries. I am really upset about this. No witnesses as of yet. How can you hit someone and just leave them? I don't understand.

She is a fellow cyclist and triathlete. I don't know her well but she is in my age group and we were at about the same level so we were usually swimming, biking and running together at local events. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Sheesh, such a trauma. Best to her and her family and all of you in her community....

At least in this coverage, the police are on our side!

Wasn't that a great statement? DH and I were both shocked when we heard that remark from the Sheriff and very happy to hear it.

She is still unconscious in ICU but is stable and they are still treating it as a possible hit and run according to last night's news.

I feel for you...our recent bad crash (one fatality; one injured) was one of those super-connected people such that you can't find a cyclist in the city that didn't at least know someone who knew someone who rode with the guy. It really hit the community hard.

But, while most aren't believing the "sun in my eyes" excuse, at least the driver stopped. What causes such a lack of humanity to not stop? That's got to make it even harder to deal with. My heart goes out to her...

Some years ago, someone I know from work was apparently hit by a truck/mini van. He was found by people who lived along the road, unconscious, broken hip; I think his bike was intact. The doctors at the hospital thought he might have been hit by the side mirror of a pick up truck or some other tall vehicle due to the large hematoma in his back towards the left side of his body.

I don't understand it either. It sure makes you wonder if the driver was so preoccupied that he/she didn't even notice hitting the rider. I've noticed just in the last year the number of drivers who are crossing the center line while fiddling with something in the passenger seat or in their hand. People are more preoccupied today than before.
