    Bike MS training questions

    To disable ads, please log-in.

So, I'm about one month out from the Bike MS event I've been training for (looks like it is roughly 60-ish miles, two days in a row) and I'm wondering if my training thus far is sufficient. This will be my first organized cycling event and longest distance I've ever done.

I've been getting in 1-2 rides during the week of usually only about an hour. On Saturdays I've been doing longer rides...now up to 58 miles, followed by Sunday where I do anywhere from 20-30 miles. The training schedule I've been following basically organizes the rides that way, never getting up to the full mileage of the actual event and it also recommends tapering in the two weeks before the event.

So, my question is what do you think I should do over the next three weeks to train? Will a couple more weekends like I've been doing followed by a tapering phase cut it?

perhaps focus on a bit more TITS time and some intervals to up you speed a bit, then taper to just moderate temp and gears for a taper. Take a day or two off early in the week before the race and make sure that you stay hydrated and well fed.

If you can do 2/3 of the total distance in one long stretch, you can do the whole distance on the day.

    good luck!

How are you feeling at the end of the 30 miles on Sunday? If you're feeling good, I'd say you're pretty close on training. I would taper the week before the ride.

I feel good after the Sunday rides. Tired but not like I've spent all I've got. Thanks for the feedback y'all. I'll let you know how it goes. This weekend I think I'll do 60 Saturday and 40 Sunday...
