First 50 mile ride on my road bike

Today I did my first 50 mile ride on my new road bike. I had a stiff headwind for about 15 miles, which kinda wiped me out. Plus, the bar where I had planned on getting lunch halfway through was closed for Monday. Oops! Luckily, I made it to a visitor's center which had a water fountain and candy bars. I never eat candy, but I ate 3 of them. The woman at the cash register was amused when I kept coming back in for another one. On the third candy bar, she asked me if I wanted a bag, then she cracked up laughing. Ok, so I was starving.

But I made it up all the steep hills (well, almost), and I got my second wind and could have kept going by the time I made it back to the car. I averaged 14 mph, which isn't bad for me. And my saddle is finally adjusted so it's not hurting anymore. (I remembered that a chiropractor once told me I had one leg longer than the other, so I tilted the seat to one side very, very slightly, away from the side of my bottom that was killing me, and that did the trick.)

congrats on your succcessful ride- Yay for candy bars and comfortable saddles. I always allow myself a couple of bite sized snickers bars mid ride because most of my riides go by this one gas station and by buying 3 ( for $0.25) I can justify using thier bathroom first.

    good for you.

I'm cracking up at your candy bar comments. I can visualize the whole thing. Congrats! And especially for getting your saddle just right...I'm still working on that.

That's so great! Good for you Hilarious about the candy bars, but I'm sure that snack bar person really needed the laugh, so think of it as a public service
