Where Oh Where Might My New Orbea Be?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

A month ago DH placed an order for a 2010 Orbea Diva (pink) for me for my wedding gift. The shop owner told us it would be 2 weeks. Well two weeks have come and gone and my much anticipated Diva is nowhere to be seen. I've been in constant contact with the shop owner (I'm sure he is sick of my emails and phone calls) regarding the arrival of my new bike. Today I was informed that the pink Divas have been on back order since January! What is up with that? The distribution center could not give them any idea when the pink bikes would be available. Anyone out there have any inside information on what the problem is and why there is just an extensive backup? Needless to say DH and I are a tad bit frustrated.

Of course I was told today if I would switch to a blue Diva I could have it by next week but I don't like the blue, I really have my heart set on the pink but don't want to wait six months for my bike to arrive. What to do, what to do?

I can say don't go kill the poor bike shop peeps just yet, it usually is out of their hands. Me and my BF had an issue like that when ordering his carbon Eddy Merkx. I actually called the importer trying to get it faster to no avail, so at that point I knew the shop wasn't just jerkin' us around. Hope they get your bike soon! Can't wait to see pics

The year I ordered my Serotta it was early April. Delivery date was late May. The date was reasonable since it was custom. Memorial day came and went, then June, 4th of July, no bike.

The first excuse was the shortage of carbon, then the factory was having problems with the paint drying to their satisifaction.

The bike arrived mid July. While the wait was frustrating it was definitely worth it.

Hmmm... I'm noticing a trend here.
My Cervelo was held up for 3 months (supposed to be a 2 week delivery).
My friend just bought a custom Trek in Nov. and it should have been in by Christmas. She got it last week.

Do any bike manufacturers actually deliver on time?

Sorry the bike isn't here, yet. Although it's EXTREMELY frustrating (to say the *least*), I'm sure your LBS is probably equally frustrated.

Hang in there- it will be worth the wait.

Mine actually came in EARLY! Which of course means it showed up and was built before I was capable of paying for it!! o_0

Of course had I ordered it a week later and missed that particular frame it probably would have been a disaster trying to find one, get it shipped, through customs, etc, etc.

Now I'm waiting on a full custom bike. I think I'm 3 or 4 weeks in and don't have a price quote yet....grrrr. Of course the bike shop is just about as annoyed as I am so I'm trying to be patient with them (because they are wonderful).

    Three months

Yea mine too, a Cannondale Synapse came in late for 3 months. I was supposed to have a race and the distributor lend me a bike so that could do the race , since the bike wasn't on time. I actually ordered a seatpost, and had to wait two months for it. Really I think they should come up with a better delivery time.

Wow, I didn't know they could get that far behind. My Surly came in right on time and that's the only bike I've bought new.

I actually had an Orbea on order in Feb. with my LBS, but ended up changing to a different bike because they did not know how long my wait would be...I already waited 8 weeks by this time. It ended up working out for me though because I got a bike that better suited my riding style in the end.

If that is the bike you want (pink), I would wait for it. You do not want to settle and always wish you waited for the bike you really wanted. Orbea's are very sexy bikes IMO---good luck

the companies make only enough for the preseason orders, and bc the last couple of years were so rough it is too risky for them to make a surplus of bikes that may not sell- so they make as many that are needed to meet the demand of the shops orders. so when the shops have to reorder it may take months.....

Man, I feel your pain! And I must say it took me a minute to start typing this post as I had to first wipe the drewl off my keyboard lol. I LOVE the 2010 pink color scheme of the Diva. GF, if you settle for blue... you will continually lust for pink forever until you get it. Sorry, hate to say it, but true.

OK, last years Diva was going to be my new bike. But, in the midst of deciding I got an injury that I couldn't ride, and waited only slightly to follow up on the order. Guess what? Yep, she got sold out...

Point blank the lbs owner said to me on the phone (out of town shop), "If you want a bike AT ALL you need to decide right now what you are doing.... (he literally had the supplier inventory pulled up on his pc while on the phone w/me--they come from Spain as you probably already know)".... so my Orbea Onix was a close second to my dream Diva, and bam I said "order her up, cuz I don't want no bike for the season".

Now, I LOVE my Orbea overall for sure. But, I have this secret lust for the Diva. For me, my old bike was way too big I finally figured out, and I knew I was not going to be riding it at all and suffer any more pain. Thus, I just went for it.

Last thought, you might check e-bay if you could get out of the deal w/the shop? Or, are there any other Orbea dealers that maybe customers backed out of the deal and them might have one come available?

And yes... when she arrives, please post pics. I will be drewling, cheering, crying in envy a lil too... for the new Orbea fm addition to TE.

Good Luck... oh, and what a lovely wedding gift!!!

LBS called today to make me an offer I could not refuse. They have a 49 cm blue Diva in stock (demo). They are willing to put my components on the blue and let me ride it until my pink Diva arrives. No extra charge. When my bike does arrive I'm simply to return the blue so they can change out the parts. I never anticipated this but readily accepted their offer. Hopefully by next week I'll be riding a Diva. My only regret is this did not happen sooner as I'm slated to head south to ride 3-State 3-Mountain this week and would have loved conquering those mountains on my new bike. No real complaints that is for sure.

And that is why you stick with a LBS! Mine ordered a Gary Fisher frame that was tiny and they would have trouble selling because of the cost with no obligation to me since we are good customers. I ended up loving the bike but I will not go to other shops because of this. Glad you are getting a blue one to ride but still getting the pink - win win!

Aggie Ama, I totally agree. Here is the shocker - We've never done business with this shop so you can only imagine my surprise when they extended their offer to me. I was overwhelmed to say the least. I think it is safe to safe we will be doing business with them for a long time.
