    Bicycle Dreams

Went to see the RAAM documentary "Bicycle Dreams" last night.
It was a benefit for the Golden Harvest Food Bank.
Our local RAAM rider, Kevin Kaiser, is raising funds and awareness for the charity with his RAAM this year. I hope he raises at least a pound of food for every mile!
Kevin did it as part of a two man team on fixies in 2008. He rode solo in 2009 and came in fifth. He is a very soft spoken, unassuming guy.

The movie was pretty intense. None of the riders featured were driven by the same motivator. I would recommend seeing it if you get the chance and haven't done so yet. Expect to laugh and cry.

Our family is getting back into the bike scene in our area again and it has been a lot of fun. Dave quit doing the LBS rides years ago because of scheduling issues. We have lived for years where we can pull out of our driveway onto a great country road. If we hooked up with the LBS riders, we would have to drive towards town and fight several miles of dangerous traffic to get to the type of roads at the end our driveway! This has kept us in that "lone wolf" mentality. I have done 3 local rides now and the faces are starting to get familiar. When our son gets his bike I am sure he will want the social aspect of the LBS rides. I may have to join him. Dave is toying with joining the randonneuring rides. We will have to see as he places a high value on his family time.

Well, as a new rider, I find myself in the bicycle dream mode a lot these days. I won't ever do RAAM but I am totally hooked.

    Any dreams to share?

We saw the film this winter with RAAM participants past and future. I really enjoyed the film.

While I'll never be RAAM quality I do dream of doing a transcontinental some day--at a much, much more leisurely pace.

I bought the movie and loved it, I've watched it several times.
I got the Leadville movie at the same time, ands watched it twice also.
You just can't have too many cycling movies.

My husband wants to do Leadville. Not this year though it doesn't work with sending our son off to college for the first time.

Not sure if it s the same movie, but I have watched parts of a movie. He has watched the whole thing. Our LBS owner attempted it several years ago.
