Glad I got my registration in January. But I think I must have gotten the last housing in Chehalis for my group of three, and that was in March! I was told that they started getting limited in late February.

    Smile STP Sold out

My husband and I have signed up and so far don't have a place to stay. Any ideas anyone?

We are retired and can ride anytime, but right now that means winter duds and possible rain. How are you coping with the constant NW weather while trying to train up?

    If you go here:
cascade.org/EandR/stp/stp_centralia.cfm (add the www of course)

It shows mid-point lodging. Someone may be able to put you on a waiting list for a private home. (That's what I had to do.)

cascade.org/EandR/stp/STP_Lodging.cfm shows the local hotels. I didn't try any of them myself, so don't know about availability. (they were quite expensive last year, so I considered it a 'last resort' this year.)

I stayed at Centralia College last year and that worked pretty well for me. I know you can camp there for free but I chose to pay the $30 to sleep in the gym which also included towels and showers. I think you can also pay $35 at the door without a reservation. I have a bed that is only slightly softer than cinderblocks, so I was actually quite comfortable sleeping on the floor. Your experience might be different, though...

Oh, and be sure to bring ear plugs if you choose this option. people can make astounding array of whistles, hoots and twitters when they sleep.

I'll be camping, it sounds like that's the easier option so you don't really have to do all this planning ahead stuff to avoid things selling out (I'm not very good at that type of thing, except that I managed to register for STP in time, and it's free. I'm actually just doing what a friend that I work with is doing, we'll be kind of together for the event (unless our paces end up different, but we'll meet up in Centralia and Portland).

Oh and as far as training with this crappy weather we've been having, I get outside any day that it's decent (I.E. I'm not working, it's not raining, and it's not really windy), and the other days I'm in the gym. I do 30 minutes of intervals (hard climbs, fast spinning, moderate pace) and weights. I don't know how much it helps, but it's better than nothing. Some people swear by spinning classes, so you may try that.
