    Cost of Sponsoring a Team

I work for a very large corporation, there are probably 30 - 50 cyclist. My boss thought it would be nice if we had our own team that participated in the numerous charity rides, mostly those leading up to and including the MS 150. With all that being said, he assigned me to research what it would cost per rider for our company to sponsor us, what sponsoring a team involves (all aspects). Some things are obvious to me, such as matching jerseys, orgainizing training rides, etc. But what else should I include, I'm at a loss. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind this will be more of a weekend / fair weather type team, nothing along the professional level where we need cars following us with spare parts!!

I would talk to the people at the MS Society. Our local chapter has an amazing outreach person. She's always trying to find ways to get more people involved, make it easier for team captains, etc., etc. I'm sure they would be able to provide you with some information.

My inclination is to think that it could be as much or as little as you want. One year (and one year only), I did an employer based team with zero support money. Some teams to t-shirts, some do jerseys. If it's a 2 day ride - do you want jerseys for both days. Socks? MS rides usually have team villages - the company might already have a tent. Refreshments are nice. Training rides can be supported or not. If supported, it can be a water stop or dinner (or anything in between). Does the company plan to match donations? Make a donation itself? Sponsor a rest stop in the ride? Lots of ways to get involved.
Most days in life don't stand out, But life's about those days that will...

I'll be anxious to hear what you learn - so do post back.

My family has our own little "team", organized for our sister when she was diagnosed with cancer. We ride to raise money for Livestrong. I'm obsessed with 'custom design'; my niece says I need a customizers anonymous 12-step program. I've had jerseys, shorts, socks and cowbells made with our logo.

I like that your boss wants to do this and agree that I would think the level of sponsorship could run the gamut of things. But very cool idea!
You too can help me fight cancer, and get a lovely cookbook for your very own! My team's cookbook is for sale Click here to order. Proceeds go to our team's fundraising for the Philly Livestrong Challenge!
