I know that AT&T's exclusivity contract w/ Apple will be ending soon. I think that just means that Verizon and other carriers will have the option of adding the iPhone to their mix.

OK, this is way out there off topic, but hey... my friends here on TE seem to always "know all"lol, so here we go...
Does anyone know any truths to the rumor as to when Verizon might be getting the contract for the iPhone?
Short of long story, I don't really want to deal with switching services, but want-need the iPhone. And "yes" I do know the Droid is the Verizon wanna-be-iPhone, but certain things I hate about it. Thus, holding onto hope in this delusional phone fantasy rumor that Verizon will get the rights soon.
Bueller, Bueller, Bueller...
p.s. and "yes", I did also ask the phone company this... reply: dunno.

That is my understanding as well. It would be interesting to see if Verizon would limit access to some of the iPhones more advanced features with additional pricing. I've never been with Verizon, but I've had friends with other smartphones with them that had that problem.
If you google iphone verizon, you'll find that it's a) still up in the air and b) most that think Verizon will get iPhone access think it will be a different, cheaper, iPhone with fewer features.
That said, I love love love my iPhone and am less than thrilled with AT&T, so I think it's worth waiting to find out.
the guess out there seems to be June for at worst and official announcement and at best actual Verizon iPhone availability.

I just hope it's before my next renewal window. I got a new phone ("new every 2") in Dec. and it would have been an iPhone, were that available at Verizon. I have a Samsung Alias 2...I like it, but DH got the HTC Eris/Droid...I really like it. Not as much as I would like an iPhone, but I am kind of kicking myself for not going the smartphone route, too.

We got Droid phones, because HTC sponsors a cycling team!
I know people that have the Iphone and love it. Where I work we get an 20% discount with AT&T and Sprint and 8% with Verizon, I've had Verizon for 10 years. I was thinking about a Motorola Droid, heard there are problems with the HTC Droid. The only beef I have with Verizon lately is they've changed their plans and all of the smartphones/blackberry require the addition of a data plan at $29.99 a month and all of their 3g multimedia phones the $9.99 a month data plan. So unless I get just a simple plain phone, I'm charged extra.

I was waiting around to trade in my Blackberry for the Iphone with Verizon, but I just couldn't find out enough information to make it worth the wait. So....I got a Motorola Droid last Wednesday (they gave it to me on new every 2, but I talked them into giving it to me 4 days early).
Both of my adult sons have Iphones and love them, but I am learning to LOVE my Droid, too. The big difference that my one Geek Squad son likes about it is it has true navigation, that you don't have to pay a monthly fee for. I've been using it for 4 days in Boulder and it works GREAT. Better than the Magellan GPS I borrowed from my mom last September.
The two things I don't like about the Droid is the @ key right below the C key, which I always touch on accident. And the track pad is on the right side and I'm right handed, so if I use the physical keyboard, I have to stretch my thumb WAAAAAY over there to get the keys. I don't like that. Most of my complaints are just learning curve stuff. So far there has been nothing I hate about it.
Both of my sons hate AT&T, too. I think Verizon has done a fine job for me since they bought my carrier, Alltel.

The more time I spend with my iPod Touch, the more I am convinced that the best thing for me is to stick with a regular phone + iPod.
I already have AT+T, and I might eventually switch to an iPhone... maybe in 4 or 5 years. Meanwhile I've heard of wi-fi repeaters for iPod, which is the direction I might go since they are so much cheaper than the full data plan from AT+T, and they work with laptops as well.
I really don't do that much exciting stuff on either the iPod or the phone.
Verizon has been very bad to me, which is why I switched to AT+T.

Thx so much for those responses! Well, sounds like you have heard the same things I have... and I learned a few things I did not know. I would also agree about the pros and cons posted. Well, maybe I will try and hold out a bit longer *sigh*...it's like waiting for cell phone x-mas

Knotted, love your sig link. I'm posting it on my facebook page. I cried when I saw the picture of the family.
