Bike Locker!!!!

I got the key to my very own bike locker at my park-n-ride! I'm so excited for Monday! (well, only cuz I get to ride instead of drive to the bus station)

1 year "lease", $50 deposit for the key which is refundable. (unless you lose the key, in which case kiss that moola goodbye) Metro will inspect the locker once in a while to be sure you aren't storing naughty things in there, and to be sure you are using it. TOTALLY worth it to me!

I've always hated driving to the bus station, but I didn't dare leave my beloved commuter on the rack with the bikes who get frightfully molested by the guys who live in the environs of the bus station.

The key works!

Well, I didn't expect that it wouldn't, but y'know the little worries that wake you up at 2:00 a.m....

I drove by the park-n-ride and tried it out. I know, ironic to drive to check out my bike locker, but I was out running errands anyway. It's dark when I catch my bus and I wanted to practice opening the thing in daylight. The key releases the doorknob which pops out of the front of the locker. You turn and pull to get the locker open. Took me a couple seconds to figure that part out. I'm kinda slow sometimes.

There were a couple guys passed out nearby, but the lockers themselves are far enough away from the benches and shelters that they aren't that popular. Teenagers perch on them sometimes, but that's about it. I think my bike will be fine.

The inside of the locker is wedge-shaped (each locker block is a big rectangle divided diagonally) so I don't anticipate any problem backing my rear wheel into the point of the wedge and there will be plenty of room in the front for my moustache bars. Leaning the bike against either inside wall should work fine.

I used the locker for the first time today.

May I just say how wonderful it is to be able to zip down to the bus station, wheel my bike into her locker, toss in my helmet and see-me vest and stuff, lock the door, and wait serenely for the bus?

No-one can see my bike.
No-one can touch my bike.
Rain and other fluids cannot reach my bike.

I highly recommend getting on a locker waiting list. Having the locker totally changes my commute.

I have a locker at work for my bike.
LOVE. IT.
I leave the helmet, the Garmin, the lights on the bike. No problems.
I did discover, however, do NOT leave your gloves in there in the winter, unless you want totally frozen hands for the ride home!

All right! Your excitement is great to hear! It's nice to know that bike lockers really do make a difference for people and that they actually work. Seems like all we hear is complaints about keys not working or what-have-you.

Also for those of you who want to park downtown, there's free secure bike parking at Bikestation (soon it's going to be called Bike Port) from 9:00 to 5:00, and 24/7 access for a fee. It's at 311 3rd Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98104. I'm there during the day in the back, so come say hi if you do park here.

Oh, my gosh! What an amazing difference the lockers make! Really, the locker turned something I wouldn't consider (biking to the bus station) into something I'd prefer to do!

Today it was raining rather hard in the morning, so I drove. By the time I got to the TC, the rain had almost stopped and I was kicking myself. Of course, the weather just got better all day and by the time I got off my bus to go home I was looking wistfully at my locker as I walked past it to get to my parked car...

For every person who complains to you, there are 10 or 20 more who are ecstatic!

I'm feeling the bike locker love! (and I will ride tomorrow, rain or not!)

Every Day...I bet she's the sister of a student at the University where I used to work. Her name was Rainy Summer Day. Much later, I met one of her sisters, Happy Day. I am not making this up. They were from the southwest, and their hippy parents had a field day (ha!) naming their kids.

I love Love LOVE LOVE LOVE my bike locker!

What an amazing invention! So perfect! So beautiful! So functional!

Today it was sunny and gorgeous, and the whole bus ride home I was looking forward to that last leg of my commute on the bike. Pulled the bike out of the locker, and rode off into the sunset. Wow.

Sigh. I love my locker.
