Does anyone know what to do when the chrome is flaking off the seat stays of a steel bike? Is there any way to repair it, and in the meantime, what can I do to do to make it stop?

I had this problem on my motorcycle. It's fairly damp here, and the chrome corroded and flaked off. When I traded it in, they said it looked like a product defect and they were going to make a warranty claim.

Do you store the bike inside or in a dry place? My issue was definitely caused by moisture getting under the chrome.

    Not much help, sorry.

Yes, it's always been kept indoors, but we do live on an island. It's happening on my bf's '98 Eddy Merckx, which was in near mint condition (he hardly ever rides it). Nothing else on it is corroding.
