Street naming- making it unique

Look, I realize that naming streets numerically, ie. 4th Ave. W. sort of helps directionally. But it is sure dull and doesn't help everyone from a standpoint of memorizing an address.

And we leave it to the developers.. in some areas. Geez.

City I grew up in had alot of the older streets named after German-Mennonite settlers... Erb St., Weber, Shantz, etc. I thought it was normal until I met visitors who couldn't pronounce some of these llast names correctly.

Near where my Grandpa lives there are roads called "This Way" and "That Way" (and yes, they're right after one another on the highway)

In Waco, there's even a "New Road".... it's on the south end of town. Odd thing is, at one end it's 41st Street.. at the other end, Garden Drive?

I live on a very boring numbered county road.. but unlike numbered city streets, these are not numbered in any logical way - I'm not even convinced they were numbered in order of when they were created.

I'll have to find the thread from a while back where we talked about odd street and people's names. Some were wayyyy wayyyy out there..

I'd rather have it simple and short. No one can write my streetname, it's way too complicated. So most of family and friends write w-street. (the streetname begins with a W) and we always get our mail.

Here we mostly use names of artists and historical figures (painters, writers, kings, queens, emperors,...) for new streets.

There's a street in Bella Vista (Ar) named Suits Us. It always tickles me when I see it, for some reason.
