Flip Camcorder

Does anyone have one? I've heard great things about them, and was thinking about one for Christmas for my husband.

I had one. I got it to record my dance classes. It was really easy to use, and was great for just plugging in the computer and giving the girls instant feedback, but the recorded area was really narrow. Narrower than my Canon G10 with video and the resolution the same, so I sold it. Mine also had an issue with the record button not wanting to turn off. It took several emails to convince customer service to accept it for service. You can't send it in without an RMA, and I finally had to get mad to get them to give me one, even though I had it less than a month.

Maybe my experience was just the exception. You can go to Amazon or Cnet and check out reviews on stuff like this.

My father in law got one recently and has been enjoying it. Relatively painless to use and to get videos onto the computer. Quality seemed decent (it's not a super HD awesome cam, but it's decent).

My brother got one last year for his kids to take videos on their vacatio (to DC for the inauguration). They had lots of problems with it.

So many cameras have video capability now (The canon G10, for example), that I wonder about getting a video specific camera.
My new SLR has good enough video capability that it's been used to shoot segments of Saturday Night live.
I know that doesn't answer your question about the flip camcorder, but I just had to put in my 2 cents

My hubby won a flip mineo non-HD in a sales incentive at work. Takes decent video. But honestly my 10yo son uses it the most. My Canon Powershot Sd camera takes similar quailty - so I don't bother- big difference is the flip can record longer videos, which my son likes. He and his friends make lego star wars movies.

Uploading to computer is easy. My only complaint is the direct to computer USB end (a male connection). On our home Mac the USB ports are on the back of the screen, and hard to get to. On my laptop they are configured in such as way that the flip cannot be plugged in unless the laptop is hanging over the edge of a table. I keep meaning to buy a female to male adapter cord.

I have one and love it. The Mino HD is not a good idea unless your computer can handle it. I bought that one initially but it took hours, and I mean hours, to upload any video. So I exchanged it for the regular non-HD version, plus got the battery charger and now a little tripod.
I know most phones these days do decent video, but I always seem to forget that fact, plus my iPhone isn't ideal to use as a camera in terms of holding it while shooting.

I have one and have been pretty happy with it. No complaints at all really. It's really easy to use and a fun little thing to have. Of course it's nothing super high-tech and fancy, but it gets the job done, takes decent videos and I like the idea that you can make longer videos.

That sounds very familiar! I think my youngest used the video camera way more than we ever did.
