    Poor Curly Kitten

A couple of weeks ago Curly Kitten (one of the ferals) did not show up for breakfast. He turned up a few days later with an injured leg. We were finally able to catch him today and get him into a carrier for a trip to the vet. Turns out his leg is broken and has started to set up badly and he has a really deep infection in the muscle. Poor baby.

I'm really torn about trying to turn him into an indoor cat at this point. We've already got our two indoor kitties and that has always been our limit. He's about a year old and is use to being able to wander around at will outside. But at the same time, the vet says this leg will never be right now. Our backyard, if he stays in it, is pretty safe. No large predators can get in and he gets fed every day with the other ferals.

And how will Cassie and Tucker feel about another kitty inside?

    Hi,

Some "ferals" are friendly enough that they can be quite content as a indoor only house cats. And like anything else in life, there are those kittens, which are impossible to turn them into a nice pets. Our rescue group have seen all varieties of "ferals".

Only thing is give it a try. If you pay attention, I think you will know the answer in just few days as to whether he can be a pet or feral/wild cat.

Years ago, I had two cats. One came to my house as an injured guy and looking for a new home. So he wasn't a feral. The first two or three month was a bit trying for both of us. He wasn't fixed... long story short, he sprayed inside my house on several occasions. Once we got him fixed, he was fine. When he was about 5, I turned him into a strictly an indoor cat. At first, he didn't like it but he eventually got used to it. I stopped letting my cats out after his "sister" was nearly taken by a coyote. She survived and lived a good long life.

wish you luck with the Curly kitten,

V - The same thing happened to my sister's cat, Lucy. The vet predicted that Lucy would never use the leg again but, even though it bothered her, she got around well. She was quite the scrapper---hunter, could kick any other cat's butt (and did), ran like the wind, sometimes on three legs. An indoor/outdoor cat with a taste for mice, moles, rabbits, etc --our kitchen outside window sill became her trophy shelf.

The recovery from the infection was extremely painful for Lucy, but this was back in the 70s.... The vet had to change her bandages changed weekly and it was a horrible ordeal for all involved.

During curly's recovery, everyone --- human and feline --- will figure out whether it's right for curly to be an indoor cat. Best wishes to you and a quick recovery for sweet curly
