    First 10 mile ride

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I know there are a few (at least) of us that are working to build up miles on rides. I thought we could share our first 10 mile ride.

I did my first 10 mile ride on Thursday ~ in fact, it was 11 miles. yay!!

I can't believe it was only a week or so ago I could barely ride 1 mile!

Today I didn't focus on miles I worked by time. I rode out as far as I could in 20 minutes ~ and gave myself 40 minutes to get back home. I ended up riding for 43 minutes and it was 9.1 miles.

The first 10 miler feels like a nice milestone ~ look forward to hearing about yours.

    Hurray!!!

Don't you feel great?? That's a real accomplishment, momtohanna. It's a terrific way to start the weekend.

I'm not going to talk about my first 10 -- this is your moment

    My first 10

Just did it on 8/17 and wrote a bit about it on this post:

The difference was definitely the new new bike.

Today I did 13.29 on the Cherry Creek Bike Path here in Denver. Like you, I want to build miles up. Or time. Or whatever I have at my disposal! My senior year of nursing school starts this Monday and I am really afraid what this is going to do to my biking time. However, I have committed to riding at least an hour 4 times a week. I'll get away more if I can though! This is one workout that I look forward to. FINALLY!

Are you committing yourself to a schedule momtohanna? Or just going as you can since you have a little one at home? Please share more about your ride, what your route is like (trail or road), etc. I'm interested in hearing about it!

I've been trying to go out 6 days a week. I get up early in the morning ~ set the little one up with some cereal and PBS. I usually have at least an hour to ride in the morning before hubby has to run out to work.

I'm trying to throw some longer rides in there too on the weekends.

I also have a bike trailer so I can take the little one with me if I need to, although I do enjoy the lack of 3 year old chatter on my ride.

I live in rural Kansas, so I've been driving to the end of my very gravelly road, and from there I'm on basically empty country highways. My route has "rolling hills" ~ at least that's probably what they are called, a couple are pretty long, but not really steep, but there's a couple short ones that are kind of steep, so it's a good workout.

Mostly I'm just enjoying doing something for me ~ that's good for me.

That sounds like a lovely ride and it's so nice that you have a bit of time to yourself first thing.

I'm certainly no expert on training, but I'll bet those rolling hills are terrific for quickly making you stronger so you can ride even longer.

I personally find the Kansas landscape to be serenely beautiful. And how wonderful to be out in the fresh air. The problem for me on the bike trail today was constantly passing pedestrians, being passed by other bikers, etc. It's BUSY on the trails here. I was thinking about taking my bike out east for some peace!

Once in a while we'll go to Wichita and use the bike paths at the park, it's much busier there, but still not too bad ~ yet we usually go during the week, haven't tried it on a weekend yet lol.

Yes, the scenery is quite beautiful ~ I didn't realize how smelly the cows are from the car though ~ that's taking a little getting used to lol.

Cows aren't as bad as pigs though! I'm originally from Missouri and boy you can smell a pig farm for miles...
