I'm so sorry to hear about your day, 7rider. So sad about your neighbor's cat.

DH took me on a "new" route today - a route he learned from a neighbor of ours and which goes out past Brookeville towards Damascus. It was in MDHillSlug's neck o' the woods - see her picture on "what do you see when you ride" and you'll see what the area looked like. Very pretty, rolling countryside. Lots of horses, cows, and sheep, and once we got off Rt. 650, not too many cars.
But I had this weird sense of foreboding all during the ride. I was really tentative on hills (I don't like limited site distance roads, I'm afraid some moron is going to cut some corner at speed and take us out). DH said it was a 40 mile ride, and after a while, it was plain that the route would finish up closer to 50, and I felt I didn't have enough food in the tank or drink in the bottles to make me happy.
I didn't know the roads, so my anxiety level was ramping up. So, all this means after about 30 miles, I started snapping at poor DH, ready to take his head off at the slightest provocation.
Finally, back in the neighborhood, and we are on the street that runs perpendicular to ours. And there, on the side of the road, was our neighbor's cat. It had been hit by a car, and was dead!Oh, it was sooo distressing. Moreso, because they are vacationing on the Eastern Shore this week. After some frantic calling around to other neighbors to get their cell phone number, we let them know what happened, and went and retrieved it for them, wrapping it in an old sheet. Their friends who were watching the cats came over and took her from us.
What a major downer today.
